Asthma

I've had asthma since roughly 6 months, old.  I'm now 24, and have been in and out of the hospital all of my life.
I just recently came down with some asthma symptoms, and i'm due to have laparoscopy with possibilty laparotomy surgery on Tuesday (7-26).
I know that I can't take prednesione, so i've been taking my albuterol inhalor every 1-2 hrs.
Is there anything else that I can do to knock this out of my system, so that I can still have surgery as planned?

I'm going to call my asthma doctor monday morning, to see what he says, and then also the surgeon to give him a heads up.
I'm hoping this is just a regular cold, and won't lead to anything eles.  (crossing fingers).

By the way, When I was younger, I stayed at National Jewish, for about 2 weeks, brings back so many memories :(

By the time you are reading this, you may already have an answer from your local doctor.  However, if your asthma is out of control, it may be necessary to both take prednisone and postpone the procedure.  No surgeon will take a risk in an elective procedure if your airways are obstructed.

Thanks for the response.  My surgery went okay, (regarding my asthma) (the anesthesiologists that I had has asthma himself, and he was watching my like a hawk).  He also gave me theopholin (cksp) post op, and had nebulizer treatments when I woke up, if I needed them.  He ordered that specifically.

To the other poster, regarding what type of asthma I have: how do I sum it up.  My asthma comes on from almost anything and everything.  It gets really bad when i have a cold or flu, or just a cough.  I also sometimes have excerise induced asthma (but not so much anymore).  My last hospital visit for my asthma was when I moved to Las Vegas, which was roughly 5 years ago.  I was a senior in high school, and I ended up with a pnuemothorax (collapsed lung) (my second one) and was in the hospital for around 2 weeks.  That was one of the hardest times of my life.
Have an awesome evening,
Amy
