Bilateral Pleural Effusions

My question is this, I had a chest xray today, the radiologist reports, smalll bilateral pleural effusions,  now this is also what was reported last month when I was put in hospital for pneumonia, I did have surgery in March 09  I had a pleuradesis done, for numerous pneumothoraxs, I have a history in my family of bleb covered lungs which I do both lungs are covered,,, My mother and my brother, both have had numerous collapses,  My physician has not called me yet on the report of this xray, Am I to worry again that the drama is going to start up again? it has always been the left lung that collapsed 4 times, my right one has yet to begin?
hope to have a reply I posted before with a reply?

Thankyou
Marie

The small, bilateral pleural effusions could be due to the pleurodesis or to the pneumonia.  This is the most likely cause on the right side, if I am correct in assuming that you had a unilateral pleurodesis on the left side only.  And, they may be clotted or congealed and not liquid effusions, at all.  Pleural fluid is seldom associated with pneumothoraces and almost never precedes a pneumothorax.  I would not interpret the presence of these “effusions” as a forerunner of recurrent “drama”.  You should definitely get the opinion of the physician who performed the pleurodesis.

Good luck.

I will answer my own question, I happen to work in a hospital, and I ran into my surgeoun today I asked him to look at my xray, and yes I do still have fluid in my pleural space, which should Have disapated by now, he told me not to worry right now because it has gone down some not alot he said but it does look a mi-nute better, he ordered a ct scan for next month and will re-evaluate me then again . I still get very winded on slight excertion ,,,,He knows how I get very anxious, I had a terrible yr  08 and begining of 09, so anyway thats my story .. fingers crossed

Hope all here have their questions answered
