Cannot find cause for cough

My wife (57 year old) has had a chronic cough accompanied by occassional sneezing and gagging for over 3 years.  She has been to every specialist we can think of - lung, gastro, GP, heart, throat, allergist, etc.  She just had tests done for Gerd which included the Bravo monitor and the test was negative.  She has had numeorus x-rays, MRIs, CT scans, ultrasounds and any other tests that can look inside her lungs, ears, nose, esaphogus, stomach & throat.  She has had every medication one can think of from antibiotics, steroids, cough medicines, specialtity drugs, etc., etc. The coughing can start and end at any time.  She can just be sitting watching TV or sleeping and this hacking cough & sneezing starts for 5-10 minutes.  The coughing can start at anytime and anywhere.  She's been tested for COPD, bronchitis, asthma, arthritis, allegies, lung function, thyroid, and any othe medical condition that can cause a cough.  All tests were negative.  Currently there isn't a doctor we haven't been to withing a 50 mile radius so we do not know what to do next.

She is in good health and visits the gym a couple of times a week and just started a Zumba fitness class so there doesn't appear to be anything wrong physically except for this persistent coughing.  Any and all suggestions are welcome.

When I read your question it sounded like the symptoms i have only without the sneezing. The coughing is horrible.I feel like im trying to cough something up and it never comes up I just keep coughing its horrible.I went to a lung specialist and they did yet another ct scan but this time they found something.I had a ct scan done last year because of this cough and it was normal.Stumped!!!!!!!! until this year.the ct scan finally found the problem  6 MM SPOT.My suggestion to you is to keep insisting on a ct scan every 6 months.I hope you find a solution ill keep looking and asking my doctors to try and help you also.
