My daughter had the same persistant cough for years, even on vacations to Hawaii, and Arizona. That helped us rule out allergies in the home. She was medicated with everything under the sun then finally at 6yrs, right after Kindergarten let out for the summer she had her tonsils, and adnoids removed. The doctor was so amazed at the size, he had them put into a container to show us!!! She has been cough free, beside the regular cold/cough, ever since. Good luck.
Well - now we know. After a doctor visit my daughter was diagnosed with enlarged tonsils and adenoids. The recommended initial treatment by her pediatrician is a two week regemine of Rhinocort. If that does not help we'll visit the ENT specialist.
There are many reasons for coughing at night. One of these reasons could be allergy. Other possible common reasons for this are: sinus infection and asthma. I would recommend speaking with your pediatrician about this problem.
The Lung Line nurse will answer you during the week, I'm sure. And, you can call the LUNG LINE, at National Jewish Hospital, at 1-800-222-LUNG(5864), between 8 am & 4:30 pm, Mondays thru Fridays, Rocky Mountain time (Colorado).
In the meantime, if your child has breathing problems, call 911.
Some children have a type of gastric reflux (can happen after a viral infection) that causes coughing and breathing problems.
My husband and I both have the gastric reflux and post nasal sinus drip, both causing cough, etc. We use some natural methods to control the gastric reflux. I would be happy to share these methods with you, but...
You need to get your child correctly diagnosed first, by a very good doc (or, using more than one doc). I hope you will take your child to a good ENT (ear, nose & throat doc), and also a pulmonologist (lung doc). This will help you to find out what ALL the possible causes of her breathing problems and coughing are, and to find out what needs to be done, to cure these problems fast.
I wish you the best. My email is ***@****
