Chronic Cough

My wife has  had a chronic cough for about 18 months. In that time she has had a lung infection fixed, water in her lungs fixed -she has had Congestive Heart Failure since 1990 and is under constant Medical care for CHF..

During the 18 months she has tried endless cough cures without much success. The cough seems to be mainly dry but at times produces mucous. She has ofcourse had lung and Chest X-Rays during this period. We are both past our mid eighties andwonder if anyone has ideas which might help.

Thank you - that is so interesting. 1) Because we havent thought of a CT-scan and 2) Because we can note the Spirva inhaler and the Advair 250/50 as possible treatments.

I too suffered from an ongoing chronic cough for many months. My doctor finally had a CT-scan done of my lungs. The test revealed that I either had very bad asthma or very mild emphysema. My regular doctor gave me Spiriva inhaler to use as a trial. That seemed to stop the cough. I was immediately referred to a pulomonary specialist who put me on Advair 250/50 twice a day. This inhalation treatment has stopped my chronic cough.
