Confused over conflicting results, new to all this!

I'm in Scotland so come under the NHS. Had a chest Xray as part of tests for exhaustion/headaches/falling hair...  Xray showed hyperinflation of the lungs - then spiriometry showed 120%. Why would this be?

Hello and hope you are doing well.

If your lung function tests (spirometry)  and oxygen saturation are good, you don't have to worry. And if you are asymptomatic at present, just follow up with your doctor to see for changes.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Hi Anitha and thank you :)  Have been for more spirometry and they say they can't find anything wrong - apart from the chest Xray. So I've to go back in 3 months, whch isn't really helpful as I still don't know if there is anything wrong with me or not .

Hello and hope you are doing well.

Hyperinflation of the lungs could occur with emphysema. The normal spirometry values are FVC-80-120% and FEV-80-120%. Also, FEV1/FVC ratio, is a calculated ratio used in the diagnosis of obstructive and restrictive diseases. A diagnosis of COPD is made when the FEV1/FVC ratio is less than 70%.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
