If you are coughing immediately after swallowing food or drink, it is likely that what you have swallowed is being aspirated, dribbling into your windpipe and lungs. This may not be happening every time that you swallow. So for it to be seen you may need to have another swallowing test done.
If there is a delay between swallowing food or drink and your coughing spasm, it is more likely that along with your asthma your throat has become sensitive, possibly to heat or cold. So the focus would be more vigorous treatment of your asthma.
I STARTED COUGHING ON JAN 31 06, AND HAVE CONTINUED TO DO SO UP TO TODAY 9-8-06. IVE HAD EVERY TEST, SEEN TWO NOSE, EARS, THROAT DOCTORS, HAD 6 ROUNDS OF ANTIBIOTICS. NOW THEY SAY I HAVE REFLUX WITH A SMALL HERNIA, A DEVIATED SEPTUM , CHRONIC SINUS PROBLEMS AND NEED SURGERY TO CORRECT . MY COUGHING HAS SLOWED DOWN SINCE I HAVE BEEN ON PREVIDIN AND NOW THE FAMOUS PURPLE PILL, BUT AFTER I EAT USUALLY I WILL HAVE TO COUGH, GAG AND SPIT UP THIS LARGE AMOUNT OF GREENISH STUFF, WHICH MAKES EVERYONE ON MY FLOOR AT WORK SICK. I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO, I GUESS ILL HAVE THE SURGERY SINCE BOTH DOCTORS SAY I HAVE NO CHOOICE, BUT IM SCARED TO DEATH ABOUT POST SURGERY PROBLEMS. IVE HEARD ALOT OF BAD STORIES ABOUT TAKING THE PACKING OUT WHERE PEOPLE ALMOST PASSED OUT. NOW I CAN'T MAKE UP MY MIND WHICH DOCTOR TO USE. HELP
