Coughing since late July- PLEASE HELP!

In late July i picked up a bad cough. no fever but i was tired and the coughing was worse in the evening and in the morning i would get bad attacks and it was very hard to cough up the phlegm.  The phlegm at the time was a thick grey/green mucous.  I took some chinese herbs that helped me in the past and the cough finally went away after about 5 weeks.  however i still have a residual cough at night and in the morning.  not producing much phlegm now but when i do its lighter and easier to hack up.  any idea why i still cant get rid of this 100%?  somehow talking and eating certain foods triggers mild coughing spasms now at night.  also when i do cough i still taste a little of that metallic flavor that the phlegm had several weeks ago. any suggestions would be appreciated.  this is driving me insane

I started coughing late July as well! Almost got better then slipped back.pain near sternum and under right breast is felt when I cough, sit up or change positions. I'm  no doctor, but i am familiar with bronchitis. I feel that the metallic taste you have indicates infection of your respiratory system. Doctors don't  like  to prescribe antibiotics for bronchitis but they have always worked for me in the past. This time, they did not prescribe antibiotics and i have suffered for it.I finally convinced them to give me a zpack and my cough started clearing up then came back after the humidifier was too high on my CPAP machine...my unofficial advice...get an antibiotic.
