Dense hila

Suffering from a nasty viral chest infection my doctor sent me for a chest X-Ray at the hospital. The result was as follows: -

"The left hila does appear dense and shows a slight contour abnormality. Apart from this the lung fields appear clear"

The chest infection has since cleared up, though I am now experiencing a mild seasonal cough which produces some clear sputum. Otherwise I feel fine, except of course for concern over the X Ray result. I am now being sent for both a bronchoscopy and CT scan. What does the X Ray result mean...why is both a bronchoscopy and CT scan necessary...and what could be wrong with me?

I don't know your age, but unfortunately my whole family got a crash course on lung cancer last year.  My 79 year old grandmother, 52 year old mother and 32 year old first cousin all died within three months of each other because of lung cancer.  Each one suffered what seemed like complete different symptoms, all horrible.  My grandmother smoked cigarettes all of her adult life.  She suffered with shortness of breath, fluid build up and ended up having a massive heart attack at the end.  My Mother smoked about 1 pack a day and was an occasional marijuanna smoker (about once a week), her cancer spread to the brain, adrenal gland and kidneys.  She suffered with swelling of the brain , confusion and PAIN.  My cousin smoked about one pack a week but smoked pot daily.  She suffered the worst.  She had blood clots that caused her legs to swell like nothing I have ever see.  They oozed liquid all of the time.  Her whole body was swollen.  She ended up sufferin from numerous strokes because of the blood clots and died a most horrific death.  She was a beautiful person inside and out.  She was very popular.  Had a good career, 5ft 8in tall, 130 pounds and looked like a goddess until cancer.  You almost couldn't recognize her.  Please talk to a professional about the dangers of pot, I'm not a professional, just someone who had the unfortunate opportunity to see what smoking cigarette and pot did to my family.  I just sit and pray all the time that I quit smoking soon enough.  Best wishes, stay COOL and alive
