Dry Cough 2 months

For two months now, ive had a persistant dry cough. A month and a half ago I went to my GP and was given a blood test (fine) and an x-ray (clear). They gave me zithromax but it didnt help. I went back a week later and they gave me some kind of medicine that might counteract Gastro-intestional disease, but that had no help. They heard me wheezing when i breathed in, but nothing else was reported.

I went to an ENT doctor a week ago, and he scoped down my nose and into my throat and found nothing. He gave me a prescription for claritin.

I still have been persistantly dry coughing. I never cough while asleep, or while I lie on my back. When I cough, it is a strictly dry cough. the left part of my chest (under my breast) is sore when i press on it, and it hurts when i cough sometimes. the right part of my chest at the top is not as sore, and doesnt hurt as much when i cough. I am a 22 year old man and have never smoked, nor do my parents or anyone at home. I have no other symptoms besides the fact that I havent been eating too great cause im nervous about what the hell is going on. No weight loss tho, no fever or anything out of the usual besides this damn cough.

I just need to know what my next step should be... (pulmonoligist?) I have been congested throughout the duration of this dry cough, but not like a runny nose. But nothing comes up when im coughing. Im wondering if this is post nasal drip because ive been (sorry for the layman's term) hawking a lot of loogies. they are white, no green or yellow color. please help im sick of coughinggggg.....

OMG, I have the exact same symptoms.  I have gone to the doctor several times, and he is unable to find anything wrong with me.  I didn't get scoped, but I did get X-Rays.  However, I do have bad post nasal drip, which my doctor says causes dry coughs. He prescribed nasonex, which has helped with the nasal drip, but I still have the same cough and sore chest.  Let me know if you find anything else out.  I do have allergies, so I'm wondering if that is part of the problem.  Let me know if you find anything out, my email is ***@****

Thanks,

Chris

I’ve got the same thing for nearly 4 weeks. Cough is dry and unproductive, and only when I’m standing -?! My chest feels a little tight It’s weird bc the cough is not that intense like coughs I’ve had before that are worse when trying to sleep. Lying down.... nothing .It’s accompanied by what seems like a mild head cold/allergies with a little head/ear congestion and watery nasal drip.

Trying to bombard it with all things holistic before going to Dr. I’m drowning in water and tea.

Famotidine 10mg (available over-the counter as Pepcid AC or generic).  I read a post of user that had same problem several years ago and was given Famotidine and it worked.  I just purchased it and popped two pills.  So far no cough.  Generic is under $10.00 for 30 tabs.

I'm having the same issues, and have had my share of doctors. Nothing is helping. I have breathing treatments, inhalers, z-packs, etc. I just Cannot get over this coughing and the pain in my left lung and tightness in my left side of my chest is just more than I can take. You would think with the technology we have, they would be able to help those who have asthma or breathing issues.

I have the same for past few months. It had neither increased nor decreased. My x-rays and blood tests are normal. Read about chlorine in water could be one of the cause. Also humid weather could be a reason too... had been searching on internet for some time now.
A friend recommended taking steam every day along with warm water+salt gargling every night. Hope it works.

I'm experiencing the same symptoms. I always cough and have several X-rays and regular check up. The doctors always say it's just an allergy. I'm scrade that I might have this Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. read more in: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000091.htm

Hello,

I am a 33 year old woman and I  have been coughing since around October. I am almost sure that my sister got me sick because she was sick when she came to visit me and I got sick the following day or two days later (can't remember).  Anyway, I was coughing and wheezing and felt REALLY tired, but I was in no pain. The cough was deep and it took a lot out of me, very fatigue, but no pain, which is weird because when I had colds in the past, I always felt some type of pain, but all I had with this was coughing.  Well, took meds and it never went away.  Last week it dawned on me that it's been close to three months and my cough is still here, an I panicked. I went to the ER to get an xray done right away to rule out pneumonia or anything else.  The ER doctor says my lung xrays look find but I did have chronic bronchitis. Now keep in mind I am a heavy smoker.  Well last week, I finally quit smoking to see if that would help any along with the z pack the ER doctor gave me.  Now of course my coughing has gotten better since I quit smoking (it's only been a week) and I have finished my medicine, but the cough has not gone away. In the meantime  I am panicking myself because of course I am thinking it could be lung cancer or COPD or God knows what else .  Unlike others though, I am coughing up nasty brown phlegm from time to time, it is not always clear, but that could have been from the smoking. I have to pay attention now since I stopped smoking to see what color the phlegm is.  One more thing, my cough is worst in the morning. Through out the day, I seem to be better. But at night and in the morning, I cough a lot.  If anyone could point me in the right direction, it would be appreciated. Thank you.

P.S.  For others reading, there is also a lung condition called Pleurisy. I had that about 18 years ago and it was constant painful coughing that lasted for months. I am sure this is not what I have because when I had Pluerisy, it was painful and I was coughing NON STOP.  I don't wish that on anyone!

i had a persistent dry cough since January 2013. Never when i sleep. The laryngoscopy, the chest CTscan and the throat CT scan revealed nothing abnormal. The doctors have no idea on the causes. Swiming worsens the problem.

I have atrial fibrillation from January 6, 2013. Now I have coughing. At all times when I get AF my pulmonary pressure rises. Might my cough be due to this? Or is this a pulmonary infection? This is my third AF since 2010, and it will not go away without electric cardioversion.

I have an infiltrtion in my left lung. It will be still once CT scanned after a couple of months. It has not grown during following.

Its so wierd I found this forum, I have been having the same exact symptoms, dry cough, for around 2 months now.  I've had 2 chest x-rays - 1 which showed possible small pneumonia which scared me to death as I have severe anxiety and I thought for sure it would turn out to be lung cancer.  I convinced my doctor to do a chest-CT which showed absolutely nothing other than a few harmless glands.  Since then, my coughing has reduced greatly but is still there occasionally though never when I'm asleep.  I think about it all day and wish I could just get my life back before this cough developed and in fact my thinking about it so much has led me to wonder if the whole thing is being caused by my anxiety which has triggered physical symptoms in the past.  I've been considering checking out an ENT or pulmonologist for further testing but from what my GP tells me, he can find no evidence for needing one.  The chest CT was high resolution, super detailed and everything looks A-OK.  I run around 10 miles a week, lift weights, and am otherwise as healthy as a horse other than this intermittent, nagging cough!

I also went to mexico in November 2012. 1 week later, november 26, I began to cough severly, as if I had Asthma.
Coughing every 7 to 14 mins 24/7. My chest and ribs are so sore.
Seen Gp several times at the emergency, iven asthma/Bronchial pumps(Ventolin/FLovent),
antibiotics(AVelox 400mg)
Tested for lungs : everything clear, my lung capacity is 100%,no Asthma
Seen other Gp and changed Bronchial pumps to Q-Var
Xrays are clear, lung test is clear, but GPs still insist on taking the Bronchial dialators  till I stop coughing.
Last , seen my Ent( yesterday) scoped my nose and throat and seen very little mucous but very dry throat because of the Bronchial pumps.
It feels as if I have mucous in the back of my throat and very lethargic since all this started. I have lost 10 pounds, have very little apetite.
I am now coughing alot less but it seems it is never ending .
It is almost 2 months and I beleive that I caught this in Mexico, which the doctors disagree.
I have been using humidifier in room, lemon hot drinks, lemon lozenges, eating so much soup.
All this doesn't help for the condition I have ( Fibromyalgia).
Is this a virus from Mexico or somekind of local virus which the doctors cannot tell me.

I have the same ...about 4 months now I have had a dry cough, scratchy throat, raspy voice, head aches , general malaise , I think mine are caused by environmental allergies, caused by the toxins we are being sprayed with constantly .I am told a Heavy Metal test will tell me what toxins I have in me ..I have yet to get it done ..

I too suffer from this horrible dry cough. I was sick for the first week but no flem of green mucus just clear liquid. I ended up loosing my voice for three days. I have now passed the two month mark and am still coughing just not as often but still just as intensly or worse. My brother also has the same cough and went to the doctor who said he had pnemonia and perscribed an atibiotic. That was two months ago and he is still coughing. He smokes I quit over a year ago. His girlfriends kid also has it but has ashma as well so doctors contributed it to that. I don't know the answer but am a curious victum as well and my fiance` is satarting to get it now. I wake up in the noght coughing and cant get back to sleep... I just want to stop coughing. I heard of this stuff called SUPER TONIC its an all natural remidy that dates back to the black plauge all natural you can get it at www.redfoxfarm.org if you are looking for a natural way through this.

All of you: go to a chiropractor or massage therapist.
I was dealing with weird chest pain (left side) for months, as well as a dry cough.
Turns out that somehow nudged a couple of ribs out of place, which were in turn causing the muscles to push up against a few nerves....
I have my yoga teacher to thank for the tip.

I have had this dry cough for two months now, went to 4 doctors and took a lot of different drugs including stroids and singulair. It went for few days and I was so excited that I recovered, but it hit me back again very badly.. I am depressed (they say it is because of the medicine, not sure), and lost weight. I cannot have my normal social life and I feel I am not myself.. I hope it will go away soon

you have entered into the 100 day dry cough.
i had it when i got back fro Mexico
i thought it was some strange exotic disease but my old grandma told me what it was and what to take. no mater what  you try or what your expectation of early recover get them out of your head now. you are entering into a slow painful area of coughing discomfort you never dreamt possible.
warning to those who have a heart condition  see your doctor right away this may cause you have a heart attack the copping is ridiculous and cannot be escaped. but in and around the 100 days this condition will leave you. Take hot lemon drink dress in your favourite Pyjamas and sweat the son of a ***** out.
don't stay inside if the weather is very cold cover your face  don't talk or drink alcohol  .  i had it so bad i fainted from the lack of oxygen at this very moment  i have a headache like never before and i never get them. eat lots of citrus fruit and raw vegetables. I have had good results from cold and flue  hot lemon relief medicine. see your drug store prescription specialist  doctors really cant tell you what to use .  it takes time and lots of rest. don't worry your not going to die although you may wish you could just to stop the spells. sometime to day i felt as it was over i felt great until i had supper then it got worst that at any time. so it has 20 more days wish you all luck  be calm and breath with short breaths so to not agitate that cursed cough.
