Frequent recurrent bronchitis/infections

In 15 months I've had 10 episodes of acute bronchitis, often accompanied by sinus and/or ear infection. It usually starts with cold symptoms, post nasal drip, unproductive cough leading to wheezing, coughing until I vomit and a trip to the doctor's for antibiotics. The last few episodes progressed from scratchy throat to full blown ear/sinus infection and bronchitis in 3 days. The usual treatment plan is antibiotics, inhaler (with steroids), nasal spray (like Nasonex). I have been continuing the inhaler and nasal spray between episodes as well.
The sinus/chest x-rays have come back with nothing that the doctor was concerned about. I like my doctor, but I think it's time for another opinion or a specialist. I'm not even sure where to start. ENT? Pulmonologist? Asthma specialist?
Thanks for your help.

Before I could get to the allergist, I needed to go see a new doctor for my hypertension. He looked at my list of medications and for one (cymbalta), one of the side effects is URI. Wow, maybe that's been the problem all along! Starting to wean off the cymbalta and we'll see if that does the trick.

Thanks for the response. I'll start looking for a good allergist/asthma doctor. I'm starting to get the post nasal drip (again) and I just can't keep going thru this every 6 weeks.

I would suggest an allergist.  It is definitely time to consider asthma as a possible root cause for your repeated bronchitis.  An allergist would also be able to help treat any allergies that are causing the sinus issues that most likely lead to the the lung issues.  Allergist almost always treat asthma as well since it frequently occurs with allergies.

Feel better and praying that you find answers.
