Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is the back flow of stomach contents, including digestive juices, into the esophagus or food tube where it does not belong. This is most commonly called acid reflux or heartburn. This reflux can come all the way up into the mouth and nose. When this happens the material can be aspirated, dribbling into the windpipe and lungs. This could explain your symptoms. GERD can cause the following symptoms:
there are 2 ways that I have seen this test preformed. One way is very easy, the other is not very pleasant. The easy way is just a little device that is implanted into your throat right by your spincter muscle that is basically the opening into your stomach. The device is implanted during an EGD (which it sounds like you have had before), it records the ph level and sends the info to a recorder that you wear on your hip. My husband had this one done, and his only complaint was it was a little scratchy. The other way is a little more um... annoying, but I don't know that they do it that way anymore. You have to have a tube down your nose for about 24 hours. I would check and see how they do it where you are going. Either way, I would think you should be fine with no effects after a few days. It is impossible to say that you couldn't have a complication, but I myself, would not worry.
I WILL BE HAVING THE ONE WHERE THE IT's attached to my stomach inside ..they do a egd and attach it then. They will hook me up to a moniter and I will wear it for 24hr. then return it. The one with the nasal to the stomach thing I couldn't tolerate I have so much mucusall the time and cough so much it would have me gagging. Thanks for the info. The Hospital where I'm having it done is a University teaching hospital and evidently the "BRAVO" system is quite sprcialized they only do 2 a week there. I was lucky to get the appointment.
