Just diagnosed with COPD (emphysema). I'm 30 and have NEVER smoke? Any ideas?

In the process of trying to figure out a few heath issues, it was discovered that I have Emphysema, I'm not sure how progressed, but the Dr made it sound like it's been an issue for a while considering how large my lungs are.
I suffered a spontaneous pneumothorax in February,  8 months later I find out it was because I have emphysema.
I'm feeling pretty confused and overwhelmed.  They are still running lots of other test, from what I understand, the expect to find another lung disease...?
Anyway, has anyone ever heard of someone, especially a non-smoker, being diagnosed so young (and he said it's probably been an issue for MANY years)?
I have had issues with shortness of breath over the years, but was still able exercise (I just got out of the Marine Corps after 10 years),but other than that it hasn't had a huge effect on my quality of life. My biggest worry is that it's progressive and I'm 30...
