Low O2 levels

My father,65, is undergoing chemotherapy for lung cancer. 2 years ago he had surgery for oesophageal cancer. Over the past 2 months he has had double pneumonia and is currently in hospital recovering from another lung infection. My question is regarding his low levels of oxygen. Since he was admitted to hospital 2 weeks ago his O2 levels have been dipping. He is now on an oxygen mask continuously receiving full strength O2. His levels are dipping up and down but he is showing no improvement. Any ideas what could be at the root?

My precious daddy passed on 08/13/07 the day after i posted this query.  It was the anniversary of his beloved mothers death, and we are comforted to think that she called him back to her, to end his long struggle. There are no words for our grief. Thank you for your kind thoughts.

I am sorry your father is going through all of this...I wonder if his low oxygen levels are due to his repeat infections in his lungs. He certainly is immunocompromised due to chemo, so he is open to infection easily. I am keeping all of you in my thoughts...Sunny
