Persistent Cough for 9 months

I am a healthy 45 year old female.  I have always been a non-smoker and have had a persistent cough for about 9 months now.  My MD initially prescribed antibiotics, something for post nasal drip and allergy pills.  None of the above helped.  I proceeded to meet with an ENT doctor.  He prescribed something for reflux which didn't help.  Then I received a lung X-Ray which showed my lungs were good, and had a pulmonary function test which showed I didn't have asthma.

I am frustrated and tired of coughing.

The coughing is worse in the morning with some phlem, but continues throughout the day.  It often keeps me up at night.

My dad suffers from COPD and Emphysema.  Could I have early signs of these?  And, why didn't either of my doctors test for these?

I was just diagnosed with bronchiectasis.  For years I had a cough.  I ignored it and believed it was allergies.  Then I came down with pneumonia twice in 3 months so the doctor ordered a CT scan and it showed that the bronchial tubes were large and plugged with mucus.

I was thinking about the allergy problem that I may have...  Since I started having this cough 9 months ago we have experience Fall, Winter and now Spring.  I live in the Midwest.  I find it hard to believe that I would experience an allergy that persists throughout all of the seasons.

I've also considered something in my house, but in the last 9 months I have been to New Orleans and Puerto Rico and I still suffered from this cough.

I take allergy pills every day.  I am currently taking Clariton, but I've taken Clariton D, Zyrtec and Sudafed and they haven't helped.

I am still going to visit my Allergist...  Are there any other doctors that might be of help, as well?

Thanks for your comments.  I haven't been tested for allergies in a few years so it is possible that I have something new going on.  I hope that is it.

The lung function tests are abnormal with COPD......it will show an obstructive defect which the doc will be able to see on the results. I am glad that yours came out okay.
This has been a bad year for allergies, I know mine are pretty bad this time around. Maybe seeing an allergist would be helpful so that you can be tested for allergens...sometimes meds have to be tweaked and switched around until the right combination is found that will give you relief.
I hope this helps...Sunny
