Pleurisy

Can anyone tell me about Pleurisy? Im a 48 yr old female...high BP and overweight..otherwise pretty healthy. I was and still am having burning chest pain after having the H1N1 flu a month ago... I suffered with the chest burning for a week...it happens more after I exert..like walking in from out side...finally went to the Dr yesterday. She wanted to rule out anything cardiac...so I had an EKG...that was perfectly normal..and a chest xray to make sure no enlarged heart or pneumonia... she heard something in my chest I guess. After she ruled out anything cardiac, she said pleurisy. My chest HURTS!!!! Not all the time...mostly when I am outside in the very cold air..or when I exert myself. She has prescribed me Ibuprofin for inflammation ... 800 mg 3 times a day...well, I think that is way too much for me...I havent done that. I wonder if I should be.

Any advice? I keep thinking..is this doctor right? My chest doesnt hurt all the time..I still have a bit of a cough leftover from the flu...not productive....

HELP!

Hi there,I have had pleurisy off and on-mostly on for 8months now on left side. Just seen accupuncturist with brilliant results. I cant take anti-inflamm drugs. Ive stopped work and still not better. gave up work 3 months ago. The consultant could not tell me why i still have pain. I am 41just! and a little overweight but other than that fit and well.
When i breathe i can still feel bubbles-do you-does anyone else or do you just get the pain. Im so fed up with "I dont know"I am trying the alternative route as well now!

Pleurisy is very painful, at least from a personal perspective it sure is. I have had it a few times and treatment is usually anti inflammatories such as Ibuprofen, Toradol or even prednisone with severe cases. I found that the pain was severe upon deep breathing, otherwise I had pain pretty much all of the time and it was sharp in nature. The amounts of motrin that she prescribed sounds about right, I remember taking large amounts as well and it helped after a few days. Just remember to have food in your stomach as it is very irritating to the GI system.
Hope this helps,
Jenn
