You could possibly (I won't say probably) have a chronic infection in the upper sinuses.  I had PND for 5 years. The nasal sprays and sinus irrigations don't work well up there because of gravity.  The sinus flush I invented uses gravity, rather than fighting it.

The Flip-Turn Sinus Flush is mildly risky, because you have to bend over to do it, preferably in a shower, but you can also do it outside on soft ground.

However, don't do anything until after you've seen an ENT first.
I also recommend nettle leaf for your allergies.  It works for about 50% of the people who try it.  I don't think it's herbal magic, but rather the magnesium which reduces allergic reactions.

I have suffered from PND for at least 15 years. Every night when I go to bed I wake up within 20 to 30 minutes coughing from the tickle in my throat. About a month ago I was diagnosed with high blood pressure and was put on medication which I take just before I go to bed. Within 4 days of taking the medication I started coughing even more at night. Now I am awakened at least 3 times during the night with this annoying dry cough and usually 1 side of my nose is stuffed up as well. I have to get up and drink water for ever and a day. Between coughing, drinking water and going to the bathroom all night - I'm getting pretty tired. I'm not sure whether the medication has anything to do with this or not, it's just an observation I've thrown into the mix. I've been to an allergy doctor and am allergic to most everything. I've been prescibed all the nasal sprays on the market. One of the sprays that's suppose to dry up PND dried me out so bad that after just one day of use caused my nose and throat to burn and become sore. So at this point I'm thinking maybe it's not so much about drying up anything. I to have tried the humidifier, vicks, some homeopathic pill that desolves under your tongue, changed the sheets and even sleep on 3 pillows to  elevate my head. I'm not sure what to do next so I've sceduled an appointment with an ENT doctor. I am going to go and get the OOO and try that next. I'll let you know how that works. In the mean time if anyone has any other suggestions please feel free to step up to the plate or if I find out something worth reporting I will share my experience with you about the ENT doctor. All comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch! Yours Truly, Desperate In Fresno :(

AlleRx DF is amazing for PND.  It's 2 ingredients and time released.  The first is chlorpheniramine  which is also found in that OTC little yellow allergy pill.  The second is methscopolamine which is a drying agent that's also used to reduce stomach acid.

My wife has asthma and when her allergies act up and she gets PND, the next sure-fire thing to happen is she'll get a sore throat, hoarseness, and finally bronchitis.

However, if she starts taking AlleRx when she first starts getting PND, the PND stops and she never moves on to the other symptoms.

Allergy medicine alone never does this for her.  All the other things she's supposed to take never keep it from getting into her lungs.  It makes me wish we could find the second ingredient in an OTC form.

I forgot to add another consideration. Anyone with post nasla drip most likely suffers from allergies to one or multiple viruses we all carry. I can tell what helped me (in addition to homeopathic Hydrastis 6). Dissolve some salt and add a little baking soda in comfortably warm (not hot) water in a cup and mix well. Get a tea spoon or table spoon. Stand at the sink. Bring the spoon with this water to one nostril (hold the other nostil closed with you finger), inhale as deeply as you can to get water deep into the nostril, tilt you head (left for left nostril and right for right) to let the water get deep into the sinus cavity (one side at a time). Then let it pour out and blow your nose and wash your hand (leave tap water running slightly all through the procedure). Keep doing it non-stop for at least 15 minutes EVERY HOUR or more often as needed (just sacrifice one day). It completely cures not only post nasal drip but SINUS INFECTION OR A COLD on ONE DAY. I tried it. works great (women do it without a problem; not all men have the patience). Has been used and praised by many people I know. Good luck!

Try Hydrastis 6. It is a homeopathic remedy (not herbal) 3 times/day, then 2 times/day. You can buy it in a health food store.
Th common name is Goldensela. I don;t know if the herb will help, how soon it will act. A homeopathic Hydrastis helps in~ 2 minutes.

To: Anyone listening
I'm a male 60 years old and have been putting up with PND for a long time. I am here to tell everyone, thank you all for your stories and medical nightmares concerning ENT's and Medical Doctors. For the last ten years I have put up with the hacking, coughing, spitting, wheezing, lump of mucous in the throat and some of the other symptoms you all experience. As of yesterday 2/20/2009 I started a regimen of nasal flush with 8 oz. water (boiled and let cool)  mixed with 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon salt & 1/4 teaspoon baking soda. Use this with a bulb to squirt into each nostril or snort into each nostril out of your hand, whatever works for you. I also purchased a bottle of Oil Of Oregeno from GNC, best $20 bucks I've ever spent. Have mixed 3 drops of OOO with 8 oz. tomato juice and have had only five servings and already I notice a big difference. I must also say I started this due to the cold or sinus infection which made me get on the Internet and search for some relief. I got feed up going to an ENT here in Parma, Ohio about 8 yrs ago. Told him my story and wanted him to scope my throat because I had read an article about node growths on peoples vocal cords or early signs of throat cancer. I had smoked cigarettes and cigars from the age of 14 to 32 and then quit cold turkey. Haven't smoked for 28 years. When my throat started bothering me, I made an appointment to have tests done. Went to Parma Hospital and  did the Barium Swallow while they X-rayed my throat. After the Radiologist read the x-rays, I was told everything was normal. Still did not have throat scoped  like I wanted & made another appointment with another ENT who scoped my throat in his office and told me everything looked normal to him.
My problem remained with me, the most disgusting being the constant spitting of phelgm and the sensation of some glob stuck in my throat. I too was given a prescription for nexium because he thought I had GERD. Didn't help. As of yesterday my diet will change -No BEER, WINE, MILK PRODUCTS and WHEAT PRODUCTS. Going to stay the course and see if this truly does help me. Thanks to all of those with a similar problem and I hope this helps some of you because we all are different. Thanks again.
