Reason for X ray Positive for Tuberculosis

Is it common for a chest ray to be the main source of diagnosis for tuberculosis. In 2006 my husband was treated for tb because of this x ray only. Skin and Sputum test were negative. What is usually the reason for this. He tested negative for hiv, and I know that can be a reason some times. Other than the tuberculosis he had treatment and he fine. He a usually healthy individula

Hello and hope you are doing well.

Imaging studies can show typical appearance in tuberculosis. It typically also affects the upper lobes in the lungs. This is again correlated with blood tests like raised ESR and PPD. A negative skin test does not always rule out tuberculosis. If he has responded to therapy with improvement in his symptoms, then it could be a tuberculosis infection.
