'a cold' or sinus issues may be a clue to BUTYL exposure.  Any time you see a product with butyl either; expecially 2-butoxyethanol or Ethylene Glycol Monobutyl Ether.

In about 2003 EPA lifted all restrictions on how much could be 'expelled' by manufacturing.  Now no restrictions on how much can be put into the air.  Maybe there is this kind of chemical in the polluted air of CA near you?

And since this same chemical is unsafe in many cleaning products, paint, etc ... anyone at any age could be affected.  (Vapors in eyes is a serious exposure)

People who live in houses as they remodel them get exposed to lots of this type of chemical and so do their pets.  With way too much exposure autoimmune issues like ALS can occur or any autoimmune issue

I would like to know from the Natiaonal Jewish Health what the leukodystrophy was that only was found in Auschwitz Jewish people.  (A clue that this would be a chemical exposure for the population there of men and women who were forced to worked in munitions detonations manufacturing.)

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Shortness of breath is the result of any one of dozens of diseases of the heart or lungs.  If you really "feel great" when you wake up and, if that means that you have no shortness of breath in the early morning, at rest or with exertion, it is highly likely that your problem is related to your activities and exposures during the day; activities and/or exposures that could worsen asthma.  That would be the most likely scenario.  Unfortunately, anxiety could be another cause.  Sorry.

It would be helpful for you to have spirometry, a simple breathing test, shortly after awakening and then later in the day, along with a chest x-ray.

Shortness of breath is one of the symptoms of autoimmune hemolytic anemia.  I found it on the list of symptoms of AIHA in a medical dictionary.  I think VP **** Cheney has had the same symptoms with it being unrelated to any heart issue.

Do you recall a time of flu symptoms or eyes burning and hurting?  If the air conditioner leaks, the chemical I'm concerned about that causes this type of anemia ... is a component of what keeps air conditioners cooling.

If my thoughts are correct in your case ... then I suspect the anemia later in the day comes about as immune system prematurely destroys the red blood cells ... and maybe at night the body is able to make more red blood cells.  (Retic rate is slightly elevated 2.5 days after FLU comes on; but falls back into normal range after that)

Anyway, I came here to see Rob's post
and this is what I shared with him just now about anemia that hides out:

Oh wait, I guess I read wrong.   So, you're fine at night when sleeping, and feel good in the morning, but progressively worse and the day wears on.     Is there anything in particular that triggers your shortness of breath, such as physical activity?  Do you wheeze?
