Should my 3 year old see a Respiratory Specialist?

My 3 year old has had respiratory problems since she was born.  When she was 10 days old, she was admitted into the hospital and put on an IV for a virus that was unknown.  Since then, she has developed Bronchitis about 7 or 8 times.  And she is now on her 2nd bout of Pneumonia within the last year.  It seems like any little germ that touches her lungs just develops so fast that we can't get a grip on it.  She will cough a few times one day and be on breathing treatments the next.  I have 3 kids, and for her to keep getting these constant infections in her lungs seems to me like she's got something wrong.  I definitely don't want that to be the case, but is there any advice for me as to why she might get so sick all the time?  She's so young, it breaks my heart that she can't go more than a couple of months without getting really really sick.

I would agree about CF the test is painfree. they tested my youngest for that and thankfully doesn't have it. however he to was always getting sick. I am goiing to post a question under this topic and it will give his history. but maybe your Primary care doctor shuold run blood test to see if she has a low immune system. they found that out with Christopher (Cree Cree) they ened up giving him a DTAP booster and a Pnumovax (sorry if I spelled the last part wrong). it took 6 weeks for hte booster to take effect but it has helped so much.
good luck

I would definately pursure with her Peditrician that you would like for her to be referred to a Pediatric Pulomonologist. I would not let persistant illness continue for 3 years without conclusive answers. This could be anything from she is just a total germ magnet to Cystic Fibrosis. Many "bad" pulmonary diseases are often associated with "failure to thrive," meaning loss orno gain of weight, etc. Push until you get an answer.
