Sinusitis

I went to the ER for a headace that had been getting worse over 5 days. A ct was performed. I was told I have chronic and acute sinusitis of the left maxillary sinus. I was given pain meds, avelox, clarinex and flonase. Instructions to follow up with ent. Is it possible to  have sinusitis without nasal congestion. Every so often I will have a clear nasal discharge.

I am 64 and just finished an antibiotic for a sinus infection (Avelox).  In the middle of the treatment, I woke up one morning unable to breathe through my nose or mouth, due to mucus.  I just started to walk around and blow my nose and started coughing.  It happened two days in a row (on the weekend, when else?) and was the scariest event of my life.  I called the doctor on Sunday morning and was told to take Sudafed and Delysum.  This helped somewhat but not much.  I went back to the doctor and got Clarinex and an asthma inhaler (Albuterol).  However, the only REAL help I got was by logging on to this website and finding out what I really might have is acid reflux.  I read everybody's comments and decided to take two antacids after my last meal and not to eat 2 hours before bedtime.  I also had a glass of red wine (whether this helped or not, I don't know).  However, even though I did wake 2 or 3 times, briefly, and am still sleeping on 2 pillows (down from 3), I felt better this morning than since this thing began (about 6 weeks ago).  I usually sleep on my stomach but have been forced to give that up (I hope temporarily).  At least I am no longer choking to death.  Thank you for all of your help!!  We just moved, so a new environment and stress from not selling the old house yet, could be contributing to the whole thing.  I will continue to peruse this website and comment when I have something to contribute.  THANKS AGAIN!

Absolutely.  You can have a sinus infection without any nasal symptoms.  Some people only have pain in their teeth!
