Strange nasal discharge

Hi,

I have chronic postnasal drip, but it isn't really enough of a problem that anyone has ever been able to fix it - probably minor allergies.  However, every once in a while (every month or 2) I'll get a weird pressure in my nose, between my eyes that makes me feel like my eyes need to close, and that feeling will come and go. And I can't really breathe through my nose. And it feels like there is something stuck up there. After a bit (usually 1/2 a day or so), it will start to feel painful in the back of my throat, like I got something stuck up there from the back.  If I snort in and clear my throat, I will cough up what I call and 'alien' - a ropy, yellow and bloody goopy bit of phlegm. Sometimes it looks like it even has veins in it.  What is this, and how do I make it go away?  Thanks, Ellen

Sounds like you may have a blockage in your nose, such as a polyp, and may have chronic sinus disease.  You should seek consultation for a thorough examination of your nose, throat and sinuses, by an ENT specialist.

I am trying to prevent other people from experiencing 4 years of sinus surgeries with no results, just a worsening of the problem.  Have the ent do a deep culture, send it to Mayo Clinic  (new staining tool)   It could be a fungus infection and no antibiotic, mucus thinner, inhaler, etc. is going to fix it.

I am taking the new anti fungal voriconazole with a low dose steroid and I can actually breathe now!

Best wishes
