What causes an elevated diaphragm?

I had a chest X-Ray and the doctor asked me if I'd ever been told that I have an elevated diaphragm and I replied no

Elevated hemidiaphragms can result from many causes:

Above diaphragm:
- decreased lung volume
- atelectasis/collapse
- lobectomy/pneumonectomy
- pulmonary hypoplasia

- phrenic nerve palsy
- diaphragmatic eventration
- contralateral stroke

Below diaphragm:
- abdominal tumor
- subphrenic abscess
- distended stomach or colon
