What do you recommend for a productive cough, laryngitis, and sore throat?

I have been sick off and on, more like on and on, for three and a half weeks. Many things going on so Ill start from the beginning.
I orginally went to the Dr for dry cough and laryngitis. Was told I had bronchitis and was given antibiotics (bactrim). A week and a half later, I felt somewhat better. Suddenly two days later, I didnt go to the dr this time, I had sinus drainage hard core. My ears were popping every few seconds, head would pound with movement, and overall just a raw feeling in my throat. I got over that in about 5 days on my own...yay. But then got an allergic reaction of hives and swollen hands and fingers. I felt it was isopropyl alcohol that I use at school (I had earlier that day sprayed my hands with it to santitize them). Actually went to an ER because I was so nervous about how uncomfortable my hands were. They gave me prednisone, which I had side effects of tingly numb feeling arms legs and face so I stopped that. Next day I wake up coughing up phlegm. Not just coughing slightly, but full blown gag cough fits that end with me throwing up. I finally get to an allergist two day's later, thank you weekends. He told me he thinks I have a virus but didnt say which. Gave me yet again antibiotics, a zpack that never seems to work for me (which I have always been told dont work for viruses) and he also said that the "allergy" I claimed was actually symptoms of the oncoming virus. I had been having a raspy voice all weekend, but today it is gone. I now cannot sleep because of the coughing fits of phlegm. Its a variety of colors by the way, white hard bits at times, light yellow others, and even had some rusty colors in it.
I am just looking to see if anyone thinks anything is linked? If the allergy is causing all these issues? If I should get another opinion? Or what they think is going on...I cant take the coughing.
