annoying cough

i've been suffering with a cough for months now. it's gona away then returned. during the first occurrance i experience a itching or tickling in my throat and i could not withhold a cough to stop the sensation. it felt somewhat like i was choking. the cough would become so forceful that my stomach would heave and i often vomited. at this time i could not eat without vomiting at least part of my meal soon after. there have been a few months between that incident and this current one. now i regularly get the sensation of an extreme itch and must cough to rid myself of it. i often feel like i'm choking. it seems like i'm choking on my own saliva. saliva goes to the back of my throat and makes me feel like i'm choking and i cough. the cough frequently get so strong i feel i'm going to vomit. i often have to forceful clear my throat to rid myself of the unpleasant itching sensation and it sounds like i'm barking. i have severe allergies and acid reflux also. what is this and how do i get rid of it???

Hello and hope you are doing well.

Repeated episodes of dry cough, runny nose and throat irritation could most probably be due to allergens. These are substances like pollen, dust, animal dander, certain foods, insect venoms and certain medications. Exposure to allergens causes a runny nose with a resultant post nasal drip where secretions from the nose go backward into the throat and irritate causing cough. Cough is a protective mechanism by the body as it helps to prevent infections. You will need to consult your primary care physician for proper clinical assessment. In the meantime for relief from your symptoms you could do warm salt gargles and take OTC antihistamines.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Allergans that irritate the airways cause swelling, itching and watery secretions. This is reflects the symptoms you are experiencing to a tea. Dust, animal dander, mold spores and insect feces (bed bugs/cockroaches) are common environmental culprits. Eliminating any environmental causes and treating symptoms with benadryl or allergy pills should resolve your discomfort. Hope this helps. Well wishes to you!
