asthma and back tightness

I had an asthma exacerbation caused by exposure to cement dust, which filled my house during outside construction nearby.  Now that the worst is over and the house is almost all cleaned up,  I still get symptoms from even a tiny amount of residual dust. My symptoms are back tightness, sometimes severe, and a depression of my peak flows to the lower limit of normal for about 24 hrs, and albuterol doesn't help.  I now get these same symptoms from exposure to other triggers, such as pollen or mold.  I have had asthma all my life, and I keep on top of it; it is usually under control. This symptom of back tightness is a new one for me.  My doctor says it is a general symptom of asthma but can't provide any more details.  Sometimes the back tightness is so severe all I can do is lie in bed for a couple of hours. I was wondering whether anyone could comment on the back tightness, and also what kind of treatment option there is for what seems like a hypersensitivity to the cement dust.  thank you.

It is not clear as to the cause of the back tightness.  Either it is a muscle reaction to coughing or the strain of breathing or it is a problem arising from your lungs.  Your doctor should be able to help you with finding out the cause.  Then your doctor could give you appropriate therapy such as, muscle relaxants and/or more medicines for your asthma.  Once someone is exposed to an irritant and the airways become more inflamed, the lungs will be much more reactive to all types of other stimulants.  This happens to people exposed to fires, lots of smoke, lots of dust particles, etc.  The best course now is to increase your anti-inflammatory medicines and get your airway inflammation under control.  This may take a short course of oral steroids and some time.  Your doctor is the best person to make this assessment and help you through this period.
