cavitary lung lesions

My friend is currenly in the hospital undergoing multiple diagnostic testing due to unexplained "cavitating lung lesions".  Her symptoms include nonproductive, constant coughing.  That is to say, only clear mucus is produced upon couighing.  Additionally, she has experienced a significant decrease in appetite due to constant nausea.  Biopsies have been performed and have come back negative.  Test results are also negative for fungal and bacterial infections.  The doctors are continuing to run tests, but no one can provide an explanation.  She continues to grow weaker and weaker by the day.  I must note that we reside in the area where Katrina hit in August of 2005.  However, symptoms did not develop soon after the hurricane hit.  Could anyone provide any suggestions as to what might be causing these symptoms?  I would greatly appreciate any suggestions or opinions.

I saw an episode of House MD that he diagnosed persistent cough and weight loss with Pancreatic cancer.  Perhaps they are seeing lesions because it is taveling?  I would have them check the pancreas.
