You mentioned you don't have asthma but have you been tested for allergies? It's possible you are allergic to mold, pollen, etc. I got allergy shots for 10 years and haven't gotten shots in serveral years now and am still doing great. I hope you moved out of the moldy house. Mold releases pores into the air that bothers quite a few people.
Whenever I get postnasal drip from a cold or something, I have Halls cough drops right by my side. It's the only thing strong enough to get rid of the tickle in the troat people get from the dripping. When I feel a tickle coming on, I pop one in, take a sip of water and blow my nose. Works every time for over 20 years. I'm having to do it right now thanks to my sister getting me sick, lol.
Tickle in your throat, as a result a cough you can't get rid of?
Hear Ye , Hear Ye!
I found what was the cause. Please pass to all concerned, I have been sick with this tickle in my throat for about 2 years now. Did all the Throat and Lung Biopsies, Thank God is all negative. Changed high blood pressure medicin. Yet, that annoying cough and or tickle did not go away. Did stomache Acid Flux Biobsy and still nothing. Doctors do not have a clue why many people are getting this tickle... took inhalers still nothing. I am fine until I start talking, only then , the throat tickles and I cough. pretty weird. Took herbal medicins and not changes, Honey, Garlic. etc.. Well Folks, Guess what. The cause was a freaking FAN! for 2 years I slept under a FAN. Never caught a cold! thats why it never dawned on me. Remedy, take coricidin for a few days and do not sleep under a fan or in a direction of wind. this tickle will go away within a week or so. Happy ending after 2 years. till your doctors to ask their patients if they sleep under a fan.. :O)from freepctoo.com
It sounds like there is a postnasal drip (PND) that is causing these symptoms. These symptoms are fairly typical of this problem. The PND can be from an allergic problem or from an infection, which is usually in the sinuses. If these problems persist, it might be a good idea to get a CT scan of the sinuses to see what is going on. Usually a physical exam alone cannot make the diagnosis of a sinus infection.
I believe I've been exposed to mold for about 5 weeks when I started the coughing, wheezing and gasping for air. I do not have asthma, etc. I went to the hospital as I had to fly the next day and was afraid I had something horrible and didn't want to give it to anyone on the plane. When I started coughing I could hardly quit - thought I would die from lack of 02. An antibiotic IV drip, 2 z-packs, a breathing treatment, an inhaler and Advair! And nothing. I still feel the same - although the coughing did subside a bit. Last week I went back - the dr. gave me Prednisone and told me to take Claritin. It's been 7 days - and I'm still *afraid* to cough. The phlegm is still in my throat; post nasal drip makes me continue to cough. There was, indeed, mold in the basement of the house I was renting (while working) in New York (near the ocean) where I was told everything is always damp and that the pollen there is very high. Although no one seems too terribly concerned about the mold - ???
So, it's been 8 weeks since the initial trip to the hospital where I received all those antibiotics and nothing much has changed - and the constant clearing of my throat is driving me crazy! Argh. (I live in Minnesota - not a lot of mold here, it's been dry, no pollen, etc.........)
Still afraid to cough for fear I can't catch my breath.................
