I can relate. Starts with a cold. Stays all winter. Doctors haven't helped despite steriod treatments etc etc.. Lately Mucinex DM has helped me sleep and talk at work without coughing all the time.

It's not a cure but it has helped my symptoms. Sleep is good.

I also have very similar problems.  It usually starts Oct/Nov and also ends Feb/Mar.  Anytime I get a cold it goes to my chest, mucus production goes way up and I begin to cough.  I clear my throat constantly, and every morning I wake up with a ton of mucus in my throat.  I've been tested for everything, allergies, asthma, heart conditions, ct chest scans.  The only thing they ever found was acid reflux.  According to the doctors the acid is being aspirated into my respiratory system, and causing infections in the winter months.  In the summer the symptoms are still present but they don't seem to develope into infections at that time.  I'm 29 yrs old, male, non-smoker, and they are now suggesting surgery to repair the acid problem.  I'm not sure what to do, or if this is really my only problem, maybe the reflux isn't causing it after all.

hi i go through this every year. Starts with a throat infection, then fever. I am normally givin BIAXIN 500mg 2 times a day for 7 days. Within few days the throat feels little better but I start to cough and wizz. The cough is dry and non stop. I am normally given phenargan with codine so that I can sleep. It starts around Oct/Nov and goes up until Feb/Mar. It is so painful my chest, stomach everything hurts. My doctor said it is a type of an allergy that is irritating my respiatory system. In the past they had to treat me with steroid. I feel like it is affecting my lungs. This is been going on for about 5years now. Should I get a second opinion or do something different? I am so tired of being sick this way year after year. Thanks for your help.

hello I really need some help here. I've had a dry cough for over 3months now, even 4months.I went to a doctor who told me it was allergies and prescribed me some allergy medication (which i did not take)My eyes are not itchy and nor is my throat. My only symptom is a persistant dry cough. My nose is always congested and im frequently clearing my throat on a daily basis.Symptoms have not gotten wrost, they seem to be stable. Now i've developed bad breath since 2weeks, its a metalic kind of taste that i constantly have in my mouth. My teeth are fine and healthy, so I strongly beleive my coughing and the bad breath are related.Has anybody had these symptoms???? please help. One thing i forgot to mention is that all this might of happened after taking muti-vitamins daily.( centrum) help !!!!!!

These are fairly common symptoms of an allergic condition that is affecting both your upper and lower airways.  You doctor has put you on medicines for controlling symptoms related to these airways.  The next step is to talk with your doctor about seeing a board certified allergist.  This type doctor can work with you to identify the things that are causing your problem to help avoid them.  It is possible that you may need other forms of therapy.

It is also possible that you are not allergic.  However, the allergist can help make that diagnosis.
