constant throat clearing

For the last two months I have had the feeling of constant dripping in my throat. My sputum white, sometimes lime green and is as thick as glue.  Sometimes the mucus that I cough up has, what looks like, black thread-like hair.  It is not hair, but it has that appearance.  I am constantly clearing my throat or trying to cough up the "lump" in my throat.  My ENT dx. me with Bronchitis and placed me on Prednisone and Factive(antibiotic).  For a second I thought that everything would clear, but on the last day of my antibiotics I realized that my symptoms had not cleared.  I have the feeling of tightness on my chest, like I can't breath and I get really nervous so I have to move.  I recently read an article about mold and the affects on the lungs...someone posted that they coughed up mucus with "thread-like" stuff in it.....turns out he had Aspergilliosis...which is an infection caused by mold....can someone please help me before I go crazy...I have tried mucinex and sudafed...nothing works...

Hi Nicole, did you find out what was the cause of coughing the tiny hair & white mucous? I have had the same thing for a while now.

That will be my next step because I am going insane with this.  I have noticed that after I eat it does start again..sometimes after I drink milk and just a few minutes ago after I ate a slice of bread.  I'm not sure what it is.  I did read about someone with similar symptoms...the coughing up of black thread like hair and after all the antibiotics it was discovered that it was mold causing his symptoms.  It was Aspergillus.  Thank you so much for the info:) Nicole

I think you need to visit a pulmonologist and do a breathing test and get some chest Xrays.....in order to rule out any possibility of lung disease.  I am having a problem with chronic throat clearing for about two years now.......I have had several chest Xrays, CT scans- and visits to both Pulmonologist and ENT-  had allergy testing done and the only thing that came back was an allergy to dust mites........I just read that a complete screening for food allergies might help b/c I have not done that yet........as it gets worse or seems to right after eating.  I am not coughing up black hair like stuff as you describe, usually clear or sometimes yellow in color.  If its green I understand it is considered bronchitis......My pulmonologolist said I have something called respiratory airways disfunction......and that I can expect with this condition to be more prone to respiratiory infections, wheezing, coughing, phlgegm etc.....
