persistant dry cough

I have been coughing for 1 year.  Doctors have been unable to find the cause. I have tried a lot of medicines like antiallergic, antibiotic, cough syrups but no use. I had a medical check up last year and recently, according to chest and PNS X-rays, chest and airway is clear. I have an ESR of 05 and WBC within range. My widal test is ok.

One thing most common about this is that it only comes when environment is cool. I am fine in summer. now again winter has started and a little cold causes me to cough until pain in chest although I am not feeling cold. I am taking honey and steam. Please help me in this situation.

Thank you

Thank you very much. I may go for these tests and then see what comes up.

Have you had pulmonary function tests?  It could be mild cough-variant asthma or reactive airways.  If it is mild you might be a methacholine challange test to see how hypersensitive your airways are.

That is how I was diagnosed with asthma except mine is also due to allergies so it was year round.

Try drinking a hot beverage with caffeine in it, helps me greatly.  Keep up with the steam since dry air can also be a trigger.
