pft test and dlco results

Hello, I recently had a pft test for being a former smoker (quit for 6 months now and will never go back) My primary dr. told me I had copd, and told me it could progress quickly and I could be gone in 5 years, well that scared me pretty bad, so I went to a pulmonolgist. He told me that I don't have copd because my fev1 is over 80%, that I just have lungs of a previous smoker, and that if I quit I would be fine. I was ok with that until someone online told me with my dlco being under normal, something is wrong. So I went back to the pulmonologist and he said if anything it would be mild emphysema. Can you give me your opinion, i am so worried constantly. I've read that a normal dlco/va is a good sign. Thank you for any help and for your forum. Here are my results:
     PRE

FVC              96
FEV1            88
FEV 3           93
FEV1%FVC        92
PEF              96          Post
FEF75/85     0.40       0.63
MMEF75/25   65           78
VC EX            93
VC IN            90
MVV             89

DLCO SB        73
DLCO/VA        96

TLC-HE          96.2
FRC-HE         82.8
RV/HE           97.2
RV%TLC-HE  101.8

Interpretation says:
Forced expiration demonstrates mild large airways obstructive ventilatory defect without immediate response to broncholidators.
Spirograms are of good quality don't plateau, indicating slowly emptying areas of lungs.
The maximal voluntary ventilation (MVV) is normal.
Lung volumes by helium dilution show no abnormality.
Diffusing capacity by single breath CO is mildly reduced, indicating loss of effective alveolar-capillary surface area for gas exchange.
Flow volume loop reveals reduced FEF 75-85 and concave sloping of the terminal flow-volume curve, suggestive of small airways obstruction.
IMPRESSION:
Mild large airways obstructive ventilatory defect without an immediate response to aerosolized broncholdilators. Mild defect in gas transfer.

If you produced those results in the lab i work in you would be reported as normal. The majority of your results are 90% and above what is predicted for someone of your gender, height, age and weight which is great. Your DLcO is slightly reduced but not significantly so. If you had COPD you would have a chronic productive cough, weezing and shortness of breath. I haven't met you, but your results tell me you don't have any of these symptoms! You've stopped smoking which is fantastic as it means you will never do the damage to your lungs that will cause these problems.

I agree with the interpretation below that the results do suggest mild COPD.  Since you have quit smoking, you need not worry about the COPD.  Without further smoking, it will never progress to the point where it will cause you any problems.  Perhaps your primary doctor gave you a dire prognosis because he really wanted you to quit smoking.

The borderline diffusing capacity (DLCO) is probably due to your smoking, but will now remain relatively unchanged over time.

For at least 5 years after quitting smoking you will remain at increased risk of lung cancer.

I would also like to add that I had a chest x-ray that was normal and the impression was: No acute process. I did ask for a ct scan and he told me that it puts to much radiation out and he don't think I need it. Thank you once again.
