small breaths only

I have a heaviness in my chest, my lungs feel as though they have shrunk,  I am out of breath quick and in the cold I literally cannot breath, I struggle for every tiny breath because i no longer have the ability to take a reg. breath during these episodes,  i have also a continual feeling as though my throat is coated with something, and every time i eat, my throat with literally close up very painfully, I have to wait until what ever i have eaten or drank slowly passes down my throat.  It is like the muscles spasms and tightens up. with the occasional burning sensation in my throat. although i do not have nor do i get heartburn.  what ever is happening is getting much worse.  The poss. reasons for this is:  1.  I smoked for 10 years one pack lasted on average 21/2-3 days, I quite this past Feb. 2. I worked in a lumber mill for 3 yrs with no breathing protection, and inhaled fine lunber dust daily,  3. I lived in a home for 3 years not realizing it was filled with black mold. (we even had mushrooms growing our of our window sills and grass)  I do not know if any of the above is the sole prob. or a combined prob.  but I tried a friends inhaler and it did nothing at all.

First do the kapalbhati pranayam for 10 miiutes ,twice a day, for 15 days. Let me know, for how many minutes you can do it.

I also have similar problem,,,and your breathing technique seem to help a bit though I couldn't get out of this nasty problem. I even couldn't go for a social life with friends for I strive for every heavy breath, and when I try hard to breath in silent, then friends do really worry that I do strive zat way coz am not comfortable with their breath or so,,, And I always face an ever severe breathing difficulty in public places so that I prefer not to go to get-ride of serious embarrassment. So please keep on sharing some helpful methods. tnx

Follow these two breathing techniques, and let me know, for how long you can do each one.Continue the pranayam, twice a day, and then come back with your feedback, when you notice the benefit in the next few weeks.The effect is gradual, so do not give up.The extra oxygen going into your lungs will help your body systems.
Build up your timing gradually.If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume after one minute.
Kapalbhati pranayam -(Do it before eating) Push air forcefully out through the nose about once per second. Stomach will itself go in(contract in). The breathing in(through the nose) will happen automatically. Establish a rhythm and do for 20 to 30 minutes twice a day. Children under 15 years – do 5 to 10 minutes twice a day.
Not for pregnant women. Seriously ill people do it gently.
Anulom Vilom pranayam –
Close your right nostril with thumb and deep breath-in through left nostril  
then – close left nostril with two fingers and breath-out through right nostril  
then -keeping the left nostril closed  deep breath-in through right nostril
then - close your right nostril with thumb and breath-out through left nostril.
This is one cycle of anulom vilom.
Repeat this cycle for 15 to 30  minutes twice a day.
Children under 15 years – do 5 to 10 minutes twice a day.
You can do this before breakfast/lunch/dinner or before bedtime or in bed.Remember to take deep long breaths into the lungs.You can do this while sitting on floor or chair or lying in bed.
