spots on lung

My husband has had this bad cough and just won't stop coughing he went in to see the doctor and they gave him a cat scan and they saw a few spots on his lungs and also its swollen on the lungs, they refrerred him to see a Pulmonary speccialist next week he doesn't smoke he is a type 2 diabetic, I just heard today that his mother had lung cancer.  Do you know what this could be? He is 53 yrs old.

Without more information on his cough, especially the duration of it, and more information on the "few spots" it is not possible to speculate on the cause of your husband's cough.  For example, if this is a new, acute cough that started within the past 2 to 3 months, one would have to consider an infectious cause, such as pertussis, commonly called whooping cough, that is increasingly been seen in adults of all ages.  In that case, the "spots" might not even be related to the cough.

There are many, many causes of cough and the overwhelming majority of these causes are benign – not lung cancer, especially so in non-smokers.  I hope that that is reassuring,

Yes On Sept 19th I posted a question and still haven't had anyone reply back to me everyone else gets a reply back.  Very concerned.
