strange chest problem

I am a 33 year old female (former smoker of about 10 years).  I have just recently recovered from a bout of double pneumonia and pleurisy.  I'm not sure if it was viral or bacterial in origin but I was put on Avelox for 30 days and my chest xray is showing a complete clearing.  However, I am still experiencing the same chest pain I was the day this started (pleural pain).  It has not gotten any better or worse....it just won't stop.  It doesn't really hurt when I cough or breathe, it only hurts at the top of a deep breath or when I move in and out of certain positions.  Laying in bed on affected side or getting in and out or bed or sometimes sitting up causes a deep stabbing pain in my bottom right lung where the pnuemonia and pleurisy was the worst.  I have seen many doctors regarding this and been to the ER numerous times.  I have had an extensive blood panel done (no clots, normal white blood count, normal electrolytes etc.).  One doctor told me I had a fractured rib b/c my rib cage hurts when he applied pressure from front to back, another doctor told me I had shingles (which I know now I don't), yet another told me it was gas pain after he pushed on the center of my chest and I yelped in pain (I have taken the meds he gave me for acid reflux and they have not made a difference).  I am at a loss here....this has been going on for 5 weeks post pneumonia and in my mind I should be pain free by now.  I don't even have an audible pleural rub anymore so if it was pleurisy won't they hear something?  Could it be muscoskeletal or a fracture (didn't show up on xray)?  My chest is sore to the touch especially when I take in a deep breath and apply pressure on the right side.  Can anyone help me with this?  Please? It's scaring me that they might be missing something.  My doctor told me that they stop treatment once the chest xray is clear.

I totaly read these and I had the same exact pain. I also had the same outcome when it came to ER Visits where they told me my xrays were fine and guess what, I requested my medical records from hospital and was shocked when I read I had a nineth right rib fracture. So to answer your question, yes the doctors very well could have missed something or flat out didn't tell you for whatevr reason. I'd put money on it you either fractured your rib or cracked it especially if you were doing a lot of coughing. So my advice to you is look over your medical records yourself, I guarantee you'll find a lot to your surprise.
I hope you are doing better, best wishes.
