what causes a tickle that leads to bad coughing?

About six months ago I started having this tickle in my throat that led to coughing fits. I have been into the Dr numberous times. He tried Doubling up Claritin and Tesslin Pearls, next it was omeprazole, honey with cinnamon, and a strong antihistamine, and then a breathing test (I don’t have asthma) and now an inhaler. Once in a while for a few hours I don’t have a cough, but it always returns with a vengeance. Day or night it never stops for long. The other night the tickle started and I gagged and threw up on the spot. No warning. Just wondering if anyone knows what’s wrong with me.
