Rhinoplasty - Nostrils

My nostrils are becoming wider after rhinoplasty. They were reduced with alar base reduction, but I'm pretty sure that something happened to the sutures. Can yawning or smiling in the first days after surgery have caused it?
Except for wide nostrils can this widening cause any other damage to my nose?
Thank you.

Hello again dr. Nassif.
It may be difficult for the nostrils to get wider after alar base reduction , but it happened.
I read somewhere that when alar base reduction is performed, some tissue is removed, and for alar base widening a graft is needed. So now that they're getting wider without that tissue/graft won't they stretch my nose a lot? Can it cause any damage to my nose??
They have become much wider that after surgery (it's been a year) and I feel that they will return to their original position. There are also crusts forming around my nostrils.
My doctor doesn't seem to worry about it, but maybe he doesn't want to panick me.
What is your opinion about it?Thanks.

Dear Lisa_hgh,

I am sure that smiling did not affect your nostrils.  It is difficult for the nostrils to get wider following alar base reduction.  However, the best way for me to evaluate you is to take a look at your photos.

If you would like, you can upload your photos on my website at www.spaldingplasticsurgery.com/contact.html and I will evaluate them.  Be sure that you send a frontal, a lateral and ¾ view as well a base view looking up the nose.  Be sure to note that you had questions on MedHelp.

Hope this helps,
