Oral Risk

Hi there, first off thank you for taking the time to answer my question.

I had unprotected fellatio with a stripper 2 days ago and am now concerned about Std's.

I have visited my local sexual health clinic (today) and had a general std test (urine and blood samples were taken).

What risk do you think, am I at risk of having picked up something and am I ok to have intercourse with my girlfriend?

Just re-read through my recent post about the girlfriend, I made a mistake... it was not 3 days between the incidents but 1, probably about 36hrs.

Another case of me answering my own question here... I assume this is very unlikely to be an Std with such a short time frame?

Is there anyone manning this forum?

If any other mods pick over this thread is there a way to move it to the general Std Expert Forum?

Thanks for your reply, it brings me a little comfort but I would appreciate a reply from a medical expert.

I feel terrible to admit this but I have had unprotected intercourse with my partner twice since this happened.  I've managed to use protection for every encounter where I've been in control but both the unprotected instances were sleep sex where she snuck onto me whils i was sleeping.  Sound unlikely?  Not really, we sleep naked.  1st incident I managed to roll her off as soon as I was awake enough to realise what was happening with the excuse I needed to go to the toilet.

2nd incident (last night) I wasn't able to get her off me before I came and when I did she started to complain of a bad burning sensation downstairs, in and around her privates.

There are mitigating circumstances around the burning that I found out when we were trying to cool her down.  Prior to getting into bed she had been to the bathroom and moisterised her hands.  She also used some of this on my penis when I was asleep.  She also touched herself prior to touching me.  She had been drinking during the evening and usually wouldn't go near her privates with creams as she's very sensitive downstairs.

The time between the two incidents was 3 days, would this be long enough for an std to develop to cause such symptoms?

My bets are on the moisteriser.

I'm showing no symptoms so far so I hope that this is a good sign (6 days since exposure)

I've been trying so hard to avoid sexual contact with my partner and the worry of hurting her is becomming very stressful.  I can't even describe what the guilt feels like.

Std follow up test is a week tomorrow at one clinic, that would be be 14days.  Can I have accurate Std test at 7-10 days?  I've found a more local GUM clinic and would really like to cut down this waiting time.  How long do result generally take?  7 days?

Sorry I'm asking so many questions, I guess it was a bad time to post just before a bank holiday... it's been a long, long weekend inside my mind.

HIV is not a risk via oral sex...so you can forget about that. More common stds  are possible via oral sex ( herpes..etc.) the chance you contracted any std through this one-time incident is extraordinary rare.

Wow, this site is amazing.  I don't feel I need to have paid for the question.

Sorry, one more question... Would there be any point in self-medicating with Azithromycin and something such as Levofloxacin?

My reasoning is that these would have Gono/NGU/Chlamydia covered from all angles, clearing up any possible infections in give or take 7 days... I can avoid intercourse with my partner for 7 days with little problem.

I am still going through articles on this site, I am amazed at how many similar experiences there have been... and so much good advice!

After reading different answers from different doctors, I would just like to add the combined question of how common are some of these std's and why do doctors in the US have a slightly different opinion on them than their British counterparts?

Example, Dr Hook states that oral sex is an inefficient way to transmit std's and those you are most at risk of are NGU and herpes but I get the impression that Dr Sean considers all std's to be a possible risk (barring hiv).  Are certain std's more prevalent in the UK?

Hello,
Thank you very much for your post and apologies for not having been able to answer your questions sooner.  We have been extremely busy in clinic!
Receiving oral sex does not involve any risk of HIV infection.  However it is a common way of contracting other STDs, especially Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea and NSU.  Sometimes we prescribe empirical antibiotics such as azithromycin 1g + Cefixime 400mg as a single dose before testing, and these would cover most of those infections mentioned.  There is also a risk of herpes if the lady had a cold sore and you do not suffer from them (as in that case you would be protected), and hepres would usually always cause symptoms.
In summary, if all the test that you had performed are negative, you can relax and forget about it.  The window period required would be just one week.
Best wishes,
Dr José
