Desperate 4 Answer

I am a 39 year old married father of three children.  Back in mid August I did a terrible thing and had one time unprotected sex with a 25 year old business associate.  I have been with about 12 females back in high school and college, mostly one time and unprotected.  I am sure that I am the only partner my wife has ever had.  My timeline:
Day 9:
Became concerned about std's and went to local health department for standard tests (not herpes).  Examined by STD expert and he found no visible abnormalities on penis.
Day 10-13:
Developed sore throat with mild ear pain.  No fever or detectable swollen nodes.
Day 14:
Noticed a small patch of moist skin on shaft beneath penis head that sloughed off when rubbed.  The area became very irritated and itchey.  The area where the shaft meets the rim was particularly irrited and the rim was sore to the touch on that same side.  I did not notice a raised rash.  I began to apply baby powder.  I also broke out in pimples on both buttocks cheeks for several days during this time frame.
I called the girl I had sex with and she agreed to be tested for herpes.  She had not had sex with anyone else since breaking up with her boyfriend 5 weeks earlier.  He had cheated on her with another girl and was trying to get back with her so she persuaded him to be tested as well.  Both of their tests came back negative a week later.  She was told though that she had a yeast infection.  Meanwhile...
Day 19:
Noticed three very small circular, light crusted areas that were highlighted by the baby powder.  These were not open sores.  They lasted at the most 2 days and then flaked off.  I did not notice open sores.  The area continued to be somewhat itchey and irritated for another 12-14 days.  I have read much about herpes on this sight and am very depressed as I feel that I have it, which would devastate my family and ruin my childrens' lives.  My main questions are:
1) Does this sould like herpes to you?  I called the STD Expert at the health department and he told me that all of the cases he says involve obvious ulcerative sores that take at least a week to heal.
2) Could I have caught the yeast infection from the girl I was with?  He thought this as plausible explanation.
3) Does the pimples on butt cheeks and sore throat suggest an outbreak or coincidence?
4) What is the probabilities that she and her bf were recently infected and have not developed antibodies and then I caught it from her?
5)Could I have just had my first outbreak from a 20+ year asymptomatic infection?
6) Is it safe to have sex with my wife?

Thanks for any help and advice you can give me.  I am very depressed and afraid my life is over!

Its probably about 75% reliable.

The symptoms had cleared up until Saturday.  Now they are about gone again, further leading me to believe this is a herpes outbreak since it has been about 6 days since new symptoms started and now its about normal again!!   I definitely need to get a test.  How reliable is a 9 week HerpeSelect test?

I think you need to stop using the baby powder, get something to treat yeast, and go from there.

I believe that I have had another outbreak but am not sure.  Saturday I noticed a little triangular mark on my penis that stung when touched.  This continued until Monday afternoon.  I applied baby powder.  I began to get small areas like skin peeling that seemed to burn slightly and pricking sensation.  This all occured in the same area as last time.  Things are almost normal today.  I know I need testing, but am afraid not enough time has elapsed for a true test (8 weeks).  What are your thoughts?

I don't have any differing opinions from what you've been told so far.

Everything seems to be pretty much normal for the most part except for occassional irritated feeling on the skin in the same area.  I just don't know what to think.   I sure want to believe the STD Expert at the Health Dept. and Dr. HHH.  I feel somewhat better about their assessment, but am still scared this might recur, at which point I'm not sure what I would do.  Grace, what do you make of my situation?

Did you try treating it for yeast since the provider who saw you thought it might be yeast?

That's what the STD Expert at the Health Department thought as well.  He said a yeast infection can cause tiny blisters that can be mistake for herpes.  Dr. HHH agrees that this does not suggest herpes.  No, I did not tell my wife.  The shame is too unbearable and I don't want the kids to be upset as she would NOT be very forgiving!  I've learned my lesson though and will try to move forward.  I just pray this doesn't recur.

I would not say your life is over.. Everyone makes mistakes.. I think that you probably caught a yeast infection from her. Baby powder is not always the best thing to use because it absorbs moisture but then holds it in the area which can cause you to develope a yeast infection of your own or a heat rash.. Your probably fine but I would go back to the dr in a month or so just to get tested again. If nothing shows up at that point I would think that your find.. did you tell your wife about all this???? Good luck!!
