Can taking Metronidazole before an std test effect the result?

Right to start I had unprocted sex!!  2 days after that I was put on a 7 day course of  Metronidazole for a tooth infection. About a week after the pills I started to get itchy and sore down below plus lots of abdominal pain so I went for a std test.
I had finished the course of pills for about a week before the test.

Would the Metronidazole have effected the results????  As I am now feeling bad down below again!!

no we don't consider bv a std. it's fairly common in women who are sexually active.

I finally got last results on 2/12/11

It looks like I have BV so nothing too serious. What a relief!!
Which I believe is not a STD?
Just another course of Metronidazole

I got a phone call today as expected with my test results................
The doctor said that most of my results had come back but one had got lost!!
Could I come down asap and do another one!!
So I got in the car and was there in 20mins.
Apparently I am neg HIV, Chlamydia and Syphilis good news :-)
But they say my Gonorrhea swab could not have been labled properly!!!

odds are it's a non-std related urine and vaginal infection you have at this point. wait for your test results to come back and go from there.

none of the std testing you listed is affected by taking flagyl.  it also would've taken care of a trichomoniasis infection so no reason to worry about that.

Metronidazole is typically used to treat vaginosis, specifically BV and trich.  It's also used to treat other gram negative rods.  But in terms of STD treatment, it's really not used for anything except trich, which could cause the itchiness you're talking about, but it also is accompanied by discharge.

So to answer you question, Metro should not have caused any false negatives, unless it was Trich and even then they could probably see dead cells in a scope.  Not sure what kind of tests you had, but follow up with your doctor and get checked out.

not really since the most common causes of itchiness aren't treated with flagyl.

did they also test you for yeast and bacterial infections vaginally when you were seen or did you just take a pee test for std's?
