Chances of Syphilis, Oral Sex?

Hi All:

Help/guidance appreciated; I'll lay out the circumstances below.

Two encounters I am worried about (the only ones outside of my marriage). I am a married, 35 yr old white, straight male.

1st encounter, 10 weeks prior to noticing symptoms described below: had protected vaginal sex with a condom and gave and received unprotected oral sex. The partner was a 27 yr old white female, low-volume 'high-class' escort in Toronto. I did notice a classical-looking cold sore on the corner of her mouth when we were finished and her makeup had wiped off. This did not overly worry me.

2nd encounter, 2.5 weeks prior to noticing symptoms: same sexual encounter as described above.

Experience of symptoms has now lasted approximately two weeks.

Two weeks ago noticed small (about half the size of a very small pencil eraser), very slightly raised, red bump, mid-shaft of penis. I had just shaved my public hair a day prior, so thought this was folliculitis of some sort or even just a nominal sebaceous gland infection. It raised, seemed to have developed fluid, and I popped it.

Seemingly, it was clearing after a few days (seemed to have gone away with only slight redness to area), then the bump reappeared and seemed to resemble an ulceration, however, I'm a long-distance runner and I don't know if this is just a secondary re-infection.

I have ordered and taken a VDLR test as of two days ago as my GP has advised (differential from their visual examination is primary syphilis), and am awaiting results.

The escort has stated that they had full range testing, including VDLR, 'about a month ago'--I'm fairly comfortable with the reliability of her self-report to me.

I had very brief unprotected oral sex with my wife after the second encounter and one instance of unprotected oral and vaginal sex with my wife after the first encounter. We are not having any sexual contact until I figure this out.

The timelines are such that I expect if I was exposed to syphilis, it would have been after encounter 2.

My questions are the following:

1) Assuming the veracity of the escorts claim of testing, and her low-volume status (5-7 regular, professional straight men, always using protection for vaginal sex and no semen in her mouth). What are my realistic chances of having contracted syphilis?

2) Before I get test results back, can I request the shot? I do not want to be infected for any amount of time (even if theoretical).

3) Realistically, what are the chances that I have passed this to my wife, assuming that it was only our second encounter (brief oral) where it would have been possible.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, Syphilis can only be contracted when one person has an open active chancre sore and the other person has a cut or opening in the skin for the bacteria to enter. With out either it cant be passed.
