Chlamydia and/or Gonorrhea?

It's currently 10 days since I took 1 gram of Azithromycin for what seemed like Chlamydia. My lab results aren't in yet but I was prescribed and took Azithromycin the same day I went to the clinic for the testing. The symptoms I had at the time were painful urination and the tip of the penis was red/swollen. Later on the same day I took Azithromycin I started noticing cloudy/clear discharge (stained yellow) for the first time and this lasted for about 3 or 4 days. The painful urination stopped at about day 5 or 6 but not 100% as I still had a little discomfort when urinating.

Today, day 10, I still have minor occasional discomfort when urinating (much better than the previous burning pain!) The redness on my penis has almost gone away still pinkish but not bright red or as swollen as it used to be. I used to have a sharp pain when sitting in certain positions which the doc mentioned would be related to prostate infection. That pain has also disappeared.

All was looking promising except over the weekend (started on day 8) my right eye started getting reddish (like pink eye but no inflamation). Yesterday and today the eye was less red but still pink. I also noticed I had discharge from my penis once again! Yesterday I started noticing slight discomfort on the right side of my groin. Its not painful and its not swollen. I did more research online and these symptoms point more towards gonorrhea.

My questions are:
1) Is it possible that the Azithromycin is still working? I've read it could take up to 2 weeks to be cured. I'm on day 10 and I've seen some improvement but also new symptoms :(

2) Is it possible I had both Chlamydia and Gonorrhea and the Azithromycin has "cured" the Chlamydia and now Gonorrhea symptoms pop-up?

Lastly, I would appreciate any professional advice or personal accounts from people who have had co infection of Chlamydia and Gonorrhea...did you experience this same sequence of events? Similar symptoms?

Thanks in advance to all who contribute to these boards. It really helps to have someone you can ask in the middle of the night.

Its a possibility, but talk to your doctor about it.  I don't know how much lemon is too much lemon, ya know?

Hi- while in the car this afternoon thinking about dinner plans I realized something about my diet. I've been in a protein rich diet for about 5-6 months now...I basically eat chicken, fish, or pork for dinner which I ALWAYS prepare with lemon juice from a bottle, garlic powder and pepper. It's quick, simple and I'm not a chef so this really makes for a quick way to prepare a nice meal that tastes like something decent. I use alot of lemon juice and the other ingredients which is making me think I may have cause my bladder and prostate to become irritated leading to prostatitis. As I read more about certain diets and ingredients in food it made me think that this could be a possibity??? What are your thoughts.

Urine tests are quite accurate, and you are right that the timing and the baking soda stuff might have affected the tests.

Whenever you go for any testing, the best thing is to just leave things in their natural state - you can shower, but other than that, no lotions, no creams, nothing.

So I got my results back for gonorrhea and chlamydia testing and they both came back negative. The test was done via urine sample and now i'm not sure what I have or even if the urine test results are accurate. I've read that you should not urinate an hour before the sample is taken, I was not aware of this and this was not mentioned to me at the time I went to get tested. Also, the burning when urinating was pretty strong at the time and I had read that 1/2 tsp of baking soda with 1 cup of water help neutralize the acidity in urine and cause less buring sensation. I had done this a few times the day before and right before I left my home to get tested. This was all less than hour...not sure if any of these two things would really affect results.

Any past experience on whether urine tests are less accurate than actual swab sample?

I'm scared sh*tless of what I may have and going to get tested for all stds elsewhere tomorrow. Preferrably non urine based test!

What else could have caused my symptoms (listed on my first post above) besides gonorrhea and chlamydia which according to these tests I don't have? I'm on day 11 and some of the symptoms I had before are gone. Mainly the pain when urinating, the discharge came and went although I had a little bit yesterday ...maybe it was just Urithritis or Prostatitis/prostate related as AJ mentioned. Seems that whateve it was the azithromycin helped sooth the situation.

I have been dealing with a clinic not a GP and the nurse practictioner who saw me is now out of town!? So I am looking forward to new testing and taking it from there.

No, the azith won't cure gonorrhea, but speculating is only going to drive you crazy.  Its possible that this is something with the prostate as well.

Hi-
Yes I had thought of calling the doc tomorrow and letting her know of the new symptoms. When I did go for the Azithromycin and check up she did say I may need to get a shot if in fact it was gonorrhea that I had.

I guess it is possible I had gonorrhea all this time and obviously 1 gram of Azithromycin isn't enough to cure it?

This isn't a normal sequel of events, and you should let your doctor know that you are still experiencing some symptoms that you had before, and also have new symptoms.

I'd also call and find out where your results are.  10 days is plenty of time to get the results back in.
