Curious case of Gonorrhea

I have what I believe is a very unusual issue.  Around 4 weeks ago I started having penile discharge, after googling, other than the most common conclusion being Gonorrhea, I believed I had a UTI, which I went to my doctor to explain and was prescribed antibiotics.  After 3 days and no change I took myself to the sexual health clinic alongside my partner (why not) and was diagnosed with Gonorrhea, to which they treated me for and my partner as part of protocol.

Now, the strange part is that my previous relationship ended in June 16, I was tested immediately after and clear, and had no sexual partner between then and September 17 with my current partner.  We were both tested in October 16, then again in February 17.  It was end of March I had symptoms of Gonorrhea, which I am told had a maximum incubation period of 14 days anyway.  When we went the clinic together, I came positive for Gonorrhea and he was negative, to which the results of which were printed out for us.

Also, Gonorrhea is localized, so mouth, penis, rectum etc.  Mine was in the penis and I am passive in our relationship which all but rules out the possibility apart from oral sex, to which of course his swab was negative for throat.

I would like to stress I have not been unfaithful, so this all seems basically impossible... even the woman at the clinic said it has been a topic of discussion among her and her colleagues as she has not known a case like it.  Luckily my relationship is strong enough for both of us to know neither of us have been unfaithful, but regardless the facts are that I did have Gonorrhea, I haven't been unfaithful and my partner is clean.

Any ideas?  Not because it affecting my life in any way now, but the curiosity is still killing a bit.

Thanks

Hi, false positives do happen so what test did they perform to confim gono? Also note that having gono in your penis is no small infection and just having a white puss discharge there would need to be burning while urinating so did you have both white discharge and burning?

They did a swab which was sent on a culture and did an immediate test in the lab.  No burning, but after 4 days of symptoms, I went to the clinic where they did the test, gave me treatment.  All symptoms gone in 12 hours.
Swabs are very conclusive and the only real way to have a false positive is a lab mixup which i doubt happened.
Sure, which is what makes this all so strange!
also note that swabs are only good for showing a positive not a negative as can miss the bacteria with a swab so your partner coming up negative with a swab is not conclusive. The only way to get gono inside the uretha is from sexual contact.
