acyclovir ointment is ineffective on herpes lesions genitally. You wanted oral acyclovir, not the topical. are you in a country where you can buy it otc?
make sure to dilute the tea tree oil. It can be very irritating, especially with the primary ob and the last thing you want is an allergic reaction to TTO on top of the herpes!!! I love tto for my recurrences but you do have to be careful with it - I typically don't recommend its use for the primary ob due to the extensiveness of the ob and not worth the risk of making it worse. Unfortunately this first ob can take 2-3 weeks to run its course :(
epsom salts baths are helpful too and don't hesitate to apply ice packs as needed too. steeping a tea bag, letting it cool and then applying it as a compress is also helpful.
I'd err on the side of caution and return to be seen in a month and get properly tested for yeast and bacterial infections vaginally too. The bv may or may not have been taken care of and now that you've had more antibiotics , it makes you more prone to yeast again too. sometimes it's a cycle that is hard to break so staying on top of it is a good idea.
Firstly, thank you so much so your response.
I started getting weird down there after everytime after my period, once I moved here. The pads would irritate me and tampons never really worked for me (always make me very dry inside), however this took a few months to dawn on me. Never had so many issues before.
The funny thing is we did cipro + I also did clotrimazole pessaries. The infection shouldve cleared. We didn't have any sex for 10-12 days when we were on meds. Then we had sex and it was painful but I assume because we hadn't had sex in a while (he climbed a mountain before that). But no signs of anything, he seemed cleared and I did too. Then I got my period again and we made love on day 4 and 5. On day 6 he left for his country and that night I began to itch down there. The next night it was pretty bad and I started freaking out and reading up. Then I got to the doctor yesterday and he examined me and said it was herpes. He also did a swab for a gram stain. He said it showed -ve cocci which he told me was gonorrhea. I was baffled. Because I know that since 6 months/7months my husband n I have been together n there is no chance of having had outside partners. Also he's had gon in the past and he always gets discharge and very bad pain in the urethra. He didn't experience this. So how could he transmit it to me. And I haven't strayed.
So I assume its a false +ve but will take the meds anyway.
As for the HSV I didn't know tht having altered ph/bv couldve made me more susecptible. I cried for 3 days, depressed and feeling like a piece of total ****. I have to get back to work and life.
The doctor at the medical facility was meant to give me acyclovir ointment but that lady who prepared my drugs for me put in something else instead. I got back and saw it and it was too late. Typical f*ck up. However, I always have tea tree oil on me and I have been applying that. I hope it helps.
How long before they start drying up?
Thanks so much grace.
he was still shedding hsv2 as much now as he was 19 years ago even though he doesn't get obvious recurrences frequently. you having an altered vaginal ph made you more susceptible to infection with herpes too. BV especially increases the risk of acquiring hsv2 from a partner. Your gram negative cocci on gram stain very well could be bv and not gonorrhea. usually cipro will clear up bv but if you get a return of odor or discharge, be seen again for a round of metrogel if you can get a prescription for it or oral flagyl ( no alcohol with either ).
there can be false positive gram stains for gonorrhea. at this point I'd make sure you both had proper testing for it just to err on the side of caution if you can get such testing done but odds are this is bv going on.
did you get a round of acyclovir or valtrex to treat your recently acquired hsv2 infection too?
grace
That's a relief, I suppose. Well I am an expat in a developing country with remote access to health care. As for the access to internet: thank god for the blackberry. They have no other method of testing gono here! The dr told me gram negative cocci which meant gono..... And the dr's here are rarely better than the internet. So I will assume its a false +ve as we've been locked away in this wildland since we both had a course of cipro (2-3 weeks ago).
Thanks for the opinions. And sorry for the pessimism.... Just so frustrated with not being able to have a sure shot answer to my problem.....
Fully agree with Vance. I have personally got a false positive for Gonno. I knew it wasn't possible and demanded my samples were retested. Negative as I thought. A gam stain btw will only indicate whether it's a gram positive or negative strain of bacteria - not the type for the want of a more complicated explanation. Need pcr for that and as I've just told you, that can even be non specific.......
You can't be that remote if you have access to the internet. But anyway you took all of that medication and then tested positive. Unless he cheated on you or you cheated on him. I don't see gonorrhea as a possibility, unless you had it before and just recently gave it to him.
