Girlfriend gonorrhea positive, I'm negative

Hello :)

I have been with my girlfriend for 4 months, the partner i had been with before that was 2 months prior.

During my time with my GF i have been completely faithful.

As a side note i have always gotten cold sores since child hood and told my girlfriend this. I had a new one for the first time 3 months into our relationship and was asked to get tested.

I got tested 2 weeks later even though i fear blood tests (damn phobia) and got a negative. It was thorough with swabs as well as urine.

My girlfriend on the same day was told she was positive of gonorrhea.
----------------------

She explained its only possible if she was cheated on but i would have had it after 3.5 months of unprotected sex 4-5x per week.

I got retested as did she but she got treated whereas i didnt. I asked the nurse how i could be negative. I told her i have had no antibiotics so i couldnt have caught it early then removed it.

We were 99% expecting a false positive.
--------------

Fast forward a week, she was confirmed positive and i was positive.

I am wondering what is the likelihood of any foul play here on her part? Dont false positives occur because of a sensitive test so my original test is unlikely a false negative?

I understand she could have gotten it from her ex,.but then surely i would have got a positive result first time?

soooo confused, any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. It essentially looks like a NEW infection during our relationship. Would explain why none of us have had any symptoms whatsoever.

thank you!

Yes it is a bit confusing.

Are you 100% sure that the first test actually tested your urine for Gon? Was the urine your first pee of the day you tested?

The tests are very sensitive though, a negative on your part is a high chance.

Why did your partner test for gonnorhea? How did this come about?

Also bit crazy you were sent for a test just because you had an oral cold sore!

In order of chance, one of the following is probably true:
- your partner has had sex with an infected male recently
- your first test missed the bacteria, this would then mean determining who had it coming into the relationship
- your a bit freaky in not being infected for a few months... damn unlikely as it is about a 20% chance per unprotected episode!

Hi, her having 2 positive for Gono and you having one positive for Gono would surly rule out any false positives and yes it would appear as a new infection.
