Gonorrhea treatment duration?

Hi! I recently contracted gonorrhea of the throat and I have been having unprotected sex with my boyfriend. He got infected in the throat as well and we both got treated. I took the standard treatment of two antibiotic tablets and one antibiotics injection (cannot remember the exact names but they are something like arythromyzin and Ceftriaxone).  We were told not to have any sexual contact for 7 days, but we had sex on day 4, with no oral sex just kissing and protected anal sex and anal finger foreplay. My questions are:

1. How long does it take for the medication to actually kill the bacteria and cure the gonorrhea? Is it before 7 days or on day 7?

2. With no oral sex involved, is there a risk of re infection? Even though we were both extremely careful to wash up and clean immediatly after sex?

Thank you very much. P.S. we are both male.

Thanks for your answer. But they told us that we cannot get reinfection from kissing. So is it still possible to get reinfection without any oral sex?

1. It all depends on the severity of the infection and how the body reacts to the antibiotics.  Some people can be essentially cured by the end of the next day, for some folks even after day 7 they have to go back and take other antibiotics.  No matter how accurate the test and how effective the antibiotic there is never a 100% guarantee that it will conclusively work.  That being said, it more often than not dose.  They say wait 7 days for a reason though.

2.  So in your original statement you say you had gono in the throat and that on day 4 your were kissing.... I think your answer is fairly apparent.  You both put yourself at risk for reinfection.  However since both of you were medicated at the same time I would say the chances of reinfection are moderate to low at best.

Please be careful going forward.
