Gonorrhea treatment failure

I has really bad discharge and pain on urination. Went to Planned Parenthood and tested positive for Gonorrhea. I received the dual treatment of ceftriaxone and azithromycin. The symptoms cleared up and I though it was gone but a week water treatment I started to get discharge and burning again.

I went to my PCP and he prescribed Cipro but after 2 doses I got tendon pain so stopped taking it.

So I’m now thinking the original treatment didn’t kill it completely because it seems I had a really bad case.

What should I do now as Planned Parenthood won’t retreat for 30 days. Should I try the dual treatment again if I can get it elsewhere or is there something else.

Thank you for any help. Very frustrated here.

Glad it is cleared up. You were put on a normal course of therapy that does work for most people so glad it worked for you.

Hmm perhaps i was unclear about this.
Doxy is not used as monotherapy for gonorrhea. It is always accompanied with another antibiotic. Gonorrhea is basically fully resistant to tetracycline classes.
But due to the phrasing of the question, i assumed u meant using doxy only.
Anyways, it is not your job or any of us to figure out what antibiotic to use. Go ask your doctor

So I got retested and everything came back negative fortunately. So looks like my symptoms were perhaps just residual as they are almost gone now. Thanks for the feedback.

It doesnt work like this. There is a lot to know about antibiotics and the different family. Ie. The spectrum of activity. Gram postitive or gram negative...
Just go ask the doctor

Gonprrhea is resistant to cipro and doxy.
Consult an infectious disease specialist
Do an antibiotic sensitivity culture

Oh I was told doxy would kill anything. I’m going to see another doctor tomorrow who knows more about gay men’s health
This is inaccurate/incorrect information. Doxy is widely used for gono.  Cipro has been shown to have some resistance with a rare occurrence of a super infection so the CDC no longer recommends that as first line.  But your drugs given are the first line agents often used with doxy a substitute for azithromycin. The reason I asked about Cipro is because it is used for other things your doctor may have suspected to actually be causing your continuing symptoms.  However, if you are still testing positive for gono, you've got a resistant strain and the doctor will likely prescribe the same antibiotics for longer or different ones. So, go back to your doctor

My doctor is not up to date on medications and told me taking Cipro for 7 days would kill it. I just couldn’t continue as I have joint pain.

So am wondering what my next course of action is. Doxycycline?

I'm surprised the combo of meds you were first given didn't do the trick.  Why the cipro the second time?  Did he think you had a UTI?
