Red dots on penis head & shaft.

I'm a 22 year old male in who's generally in good health. I few months ago I noticed a couple of tiny red dots on my penis. I thought it might've been an irritation of some sort and didn't worry myself about it. Since then however, they've disappeared and re-appeared several times, usually appearing for a few days and then vanishing for a few days to a week, sometimes longer. The latest one i've had is the most prominent one so far, with a couple of small, spots on the head and some on the shaft too, though i'm not sure if this has anything to do with having sex (I used a condom). They do not hurt or have any kind of discharge or look particularly abnormal (kind of like chicken pox spots or spots you'd see on your face I suppose, but they are smooth, not raised). I believe there was slight itching when I first discovered them but subsequently they have never felt irritating at all. Is it possible that it could be an STD since it's not gone away now after 4 months? I don't wash my penis with soap, just warm water when in the shower. I'm the first to admit that the reason I haven't had it looked at already is because i'm truely scared to do so. I'm a pretty timid person at the best of times and the thought of having it looked at really does scare me.

Any help and suggestions would be very greatly appreciated.

Thanks again.

Hi bugg,

Yeah that does sound pretty much like the exact same problem as I have. My girlfriend has been giving me oral sex daily for the last week and it does seem to have flared up more since she started doing so. I spoke to her about my concerns last night and showed her the problem. She said the same thing as Aelly and reckoned it was dermatological so i've been to my local shop today and purchased some E45 cream which i'm going to use for the next week and see if it helps.

Fair play to you for making a doctors appointment and I hope it all goes as well as it can for you! Let me know what the diagnosis is if you don't mind.

Like you I am uncircumsized though I only weigh about 9-10 stone and i'm 6ft so if anything i'm slightly underweight for my height/age etc. Also, mine tend to fade after about 4-5 days aswell and since the last time it flared up I have definitely felt some itching going on.

I'd see what your doctor says but recommend the E45 cream to you aswell. I used it for the first time this evening and I already feel far less irritated. It can be bought at any supermarket and pharmacy and does seem to really help.

Hope this helps you out, mate and with any luck it's nothing serious for either of us :)

Hi lafferty

I think you and I have the same problem, this could be nothing more than a rash I've received oral sex and also developed small smooth bumps on the head of my penis, and a few under the head of my penis on the shaft.

They aren't very uncomfortable and only a bit itchy occasionally, I must note that in not circumsized and over weight, I've read that for us uncircumsized people 'we can develope a rash on our penis'

I have a doctors apt on Monday, I've had these bumps before and went away, now they came back and I want to get them checked (they seem to be fadding away now after 5days ) but I rather know if I have something wrong rather than always have a doubt in my mind, like you I'm very scared and have beeen since the first time I seen them come out.

Do you get an occasionall itching sensation? And are you circumsized?

Thanks so much for your responses, Aelly. I read up on genital warts and herpes to be sure and must admit I was panicked for a while after some of the things I read, hence my post on these forums. So in your experience, none of the above STD's I mentioned would show these symptoms for this amount of time? Also, just to put my mind at rest a bit more, if there's no abnormal discharge etc coming from these spots, then does that also mean that there's little/no chance of it being an STD, such as herpes? If so then that is a massive relief but I think I will finally get the courage to go to my doctor about it, just to be on the safe side. I really appreciate your help so far and thank you for potentially putting my mind at ease for once!

Well, if you don't clean a specific area, bacteria can still linger there enough to harbor more if it should come to that. But, I would advise for you to hold off sexual congregation with your partner until you get this sorted out by seeing a physician about it first. But, at the meantime, you should wash down there and see if it would do something. But, we always advise you to see the doctor about it. The reason I say this may not a std because no std would show physical symptoms for that long.

Aelly thanks for your input. I will certainly try that and see if it makes a difference. I used to use soap or body wash products but stopped when this inflamation occured. Don't mean to sound rude but in your experience, how sure are you that this can't be std related? Obviously that is good news ringing in my ears but as i'm sure you can understand, I would like to be 100% before I have sex with my partner. I really appreciate your advice and will try what you suggested with my fingers crossed! I'm by no means an unhygeinec person. Does this make a difference at all with a problem such as this? Thanks again for your input and I await your response :)

This is no way can be std related if you had this for four months, on and off. This may be a dermatological problem for your case. I may suggest you begin to soap down there with antibacterial soap and see if that will quell whatever is going on down there.
