Huge sore throat

I'm a gay guy and this saturday morning I performed oral sex on this dude. By sunday morning I had a huge sore throat, it burns, feels swollen, hurts when I swallow and it actually feels a lot like tonsillitis. The thing is that it's summer where I live and given the circumstances I'm starting to believe this dude may have had gonorrhea. If that was the case, should I be able to notice such severe symptoms in such little time?

Thanks.

You cannot get HIV from oral sex.

So I did two good things today. I went to the doctor who told me what I have is a throat infection due to probable abrupt change in temperature (which makes sense thinking about it) and that it was very unlikely, not to say impossible, for it to be related with the sexual encounter itself (too little time between such noticeable symptoms and the encounter itself).

On the other hand, I contacted the guy I hooked up with and he assured me he had no health issues and hadn't been involved in any risky sexual situations besides ours. I'll still get an HIV test in three months from now just in case.

Needless to say I'm still in pain but as relieved as I can be. Just thought I'd let you know.
(It was a bad way to learn and realize how easily and fast terrible mistakes can be made)

Thanks for the posts.

It is more likely that it is coincidental.  Oral gonorrhea is rare. And it takes 48 hrs to show in genital infections.  So, based on that, you make the decision whether or not it is worth it.  Honestly, it is embarrassing, but there is not much doctors have not heard before.  You are probably not the first and most likely will not be the last gay man to tell them the same thing.

I have had tonsillitis and I assure you, I know your pain.  Not something I would ever want to go through again.

Thanks for posting.

I'll sure go to the doctor ASAP but I'm still worried by the severity of the pain I'm feeling. If I hadn't given oral sex to this guy I'd be sure it's tonsillitis or a regular pharyngitis. Now I'm going to sleep and noticed my glands are really swollen. And the fact that this could be caused by such a stupidity makes me feel even worse. I'd like to know before feeling embarrased by telling a doctor about my sexual misdeed if this symptoms actually have anything to do with it (wich was by the way fairly short and included no semen whatsoever) or they're just coincidental.

it normally takes 48 hrs to show.  But maybe you should get to a doctor just in case.
