Penis hole irritation

I had unprotected sex with a woman 3 weeks ago, and my penis hole has been sensitive/irritated ever since.  It gets much worse when it rubs against my underwear while walking, so I've been wearing a bandaid over it recently to prevent any friction against it.  I can still feel the sensitivity occasionally and it would certainly become very irritated again if I took the bandaid off and it rubbed against there frequently.  Visibly, it hasn't changed much in 3 weeks, and I experienced discomfort even the next day.

I went to the doctor and was tested for HIV/STDs 9 days after the encounter, and everything came back negative.  They also said I looked relatively normal, and wouldnt have noticed the redness/irritation if I hadn't pointed it out.  They attributed it to rough sex, but that was 2 weeks ago and I'm becoming concerned this will never heal.

I'm trying to figure out if I somehow cut myself just within the penis hole, or perhaps it could be a yeast infection, or maybe herpes.  During foreplay there was some strong grinding directly against her and I'm wondering if that couldve lightly torn something or severely irritated the penis hole for this long.

I've been in contact with the woman who assures me she doesn't have any diseases and hasn't had a yeast infection within 2 years.  I trust that shes telling the truth, but there is the possibility of her not being aware of an infection if she had one.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what my problem might be?  I plan to call the doctor back on Monday for a follow-up, but any insight would be very helpful.

I have the EXACT SAME PROBLEM as Markdm 123. It's been 6 months since I had unprotected sex with a girl and these symptoms began in the head of my penis. It just feels like something is always bothering my pee hole. It's exasperating! At this point it sometimes bothers me when I sit too long as well. My testicles sometimes feel slightly achy too, but I attributed that to lack of sex. Before the 'girl' I hadn't had a partner for a year! I was in a monogomus relationship for 2 years before that. I'm thinking about a Urologist at this point. I'm terrified that it might be Herpes, but I've never had any pain during urinations, discharge, or blisters. I had a really rough grinding session with my new love interest and got 'brush burns' on my head from my jeans (I don't wear underwear for 30 years). A healing scab on the head and the healing brushburns have me petrified. I was tested for everything and given Doxycycline and Metronidazole on 2 separate occasions, yet the problem persists. I just want to be normal again. I drink plenty of fluids and work out religiously so I'm a healthy male. It's not in my head! It's real. Could it be a UTI that's massive and overlooked for 6 months? Is it a new infection that Dr.'s don't know about? I've read several other comments that mirror my situation. I now wonder if the mild flu-like symptoms are from sickness around me at work, or a symptom of what's truly wrong with me. I've also had a mild hernia for about 20 years. Could that have anything to do with all of this? I just want to be whole again. If anyone has an answer please help me. I can't keep throwing money away for nothing!

Mark,

I have gone through the same exact thing.  It's irritation from sexual activity, latex, rough sex, masturbation, constantly poking at it to inspect for discharge, and of course good old hypochondria.  I go through it all the time with each new partner.  The more you think about it the more the symptoms present, its not the real deal until you have a noticble discharge and pain when urinating.  I had an std once and let me tell you it is definitely a difference.  Just give your penis a break after a new partner and drink tons of fluids and within a week that feeling will go away...

I been there man just have to relax and accept there is no disease as the test shown and soon after you will be feeling 100 times better.

Ive got the same EXACT problem. Its been over three years and no help. It has to be some form of STD virus doctors aren't aware of yet. We have thrown every antibiotic at it. No herpes, no HIV, no Syphillis. I want my old penis back.

Been tested for std"s twice alond with bladder infection pills. I know what ur feeling. i where by boxer shorts backwards to keep the fabric friction down, feels like somebodys sticking a pin in the side of my penis.Shaved my pubic hair and it really got bad due to the sharp hairs rubbing on my penis head or near. Have no pain urinating or ejaculating. The discomfort is worse later in the day, especially when walking alot, cant believe there isnt a solution to the problem. Hard to believe its in my mind. i wore a condom one day and it felt normal, no friction discomfort.......Please somebody must know whats going on

sorry but this is a decisions between you and your doctor. you've been having symptoms for 6 months now and there aren't a lot of diagnositic tests left to do to try to get to the bottom of things.

Just to follow up on this:  I went to the urologist again.  He didn't examine me.  The symptoms are the same and have been for six months:  light burning, slight red/irritation on bottom of meatus/opening.  Symptoms can reduce/increase from week to week, or even hour to hour depending on my activity.  However I notice when it does become irritated it lasts for a while.

Since there is no pain during urination or discharge, along with STD testing he has eliminated any sort of an STD or infection.  He is out of ideas at this point and has recommended as a last attempt to conduct a cystoscopy.  He mentioned it would be to look for a tumor/tumors, which would be very rare.  Do you think this is really necessary for the problem I'm describing?

we talk about chronic pelvic pain syndrome quite a bit around here.

http://www.pelvicpainhelp.com/excerpts.php   is a link to a good site with info on it. HHH also has another link he recommends - it might even be a wiki article.

Hi Grace,

I've been doing a little more research and ran across prostatitis.  Are you familiar with this condition?  If so, do you think this may be the cause of my discomfort and irritation?

I'm starting to question whether or not this is a physical injury.  Visibly, it's very hard to tell there's any irritation at all.  There is a little red/inflammation right at the bottom of the opening.  It seems to get better for several weeks to a month, and then it seems to get worse again as if it's on a cycle.  Originally I attributed this to not being careful enough, exercising, etc.  But I'm beginning to think it may actually be some kind of infection.

The majority of my testing was 9 days after exposure, including a urinalysis.  Subsequent testing after 3 months was very specific to chlamydia, gonorrhea, and herpes only.  I'm not sure if during these tests they could spot anything else or not.  Maybe I need to have more specific non-STD bacterial testing?

I plan to see the urologist again, but it isn't for another few weeks and I'd prefer to be as informed as possible in case he isn't sure what to do next :)

Thanks for all your help.

glad you've gotten a little better answers even if they are just the what this isn't kind :)

A bladder infection would've showed up on the testing you had done at some point.   not sure what other bladder issues he'd be looking for at this point.

sometimes it is as simple as breaking the pain/irritation cycle.

So, six months later and there is good news and bad news.  Bad news is the irritation still persists.  The good news is that I have been re-tested again for STDs and that is no longer a concern.  The irritation has also slowly reduced over the last several months, but it is still a bother and red/irritated at the bottom of the penis hole opening.

I have seen a urologist several times over the last few months.  He tested me for STDs on two separate occasions, and then gave me an anti-inflammatory typically used to reduce UTI symptoms.  I noticed an immediate improvement with the irritation.  I'm not sure if this is indicative of any signs as to what it might be, or the anti-inflammatory simply masked any pain/irritation I may have been having.  The urologist said if it was still bothering me in two months to come back and he would then check my bladder to see if there are any issues.  Could this be a bladder infection causing irritation to the penis?  The woman I was originally with was recently treated for a bladder infection. Or is this something else entirely?

Also, this problem originally became worse with friction with my underwear.  This isn't as much of an issue anymore.  I often don't even have to do anything to experience irritation, and even a dull burning I would describe it as.  It has happened while I'm just sitting down for too long.

Thanks

our genital skin is far too sensitive for band aids.  try the corn starch and see how that works for you or put a good coating of a&d ointment or desitin on your genitals before getting dressed. corns start will be less gooey though.

Thanks for the response Grace.

Yes the doctor mentioned it was too early for a 100% accurate test on a few of the STDs and HIV you mentioned, but I did it just incase and to get a before picture so if it does come back positive later I can find out if I had it previously or got it from this encounter.  I plan to go back at that time frame to get re-tested.

When I am home I am able to take good care of it and reduce the friction, but during the work week and with all the walking it is easily irritated just from normal rubbing and just gets worse and worse as the day goes on, which is why I started using a band aid.  It's not directly over the hole, but wrapped around and sticking above the head of the penis so any clothing rubs up against that and not the hole of my penis.

Anyway, I'll try your suggestion with corn starch and see if that helps in place of a bandaid.  Thanks!

no band aids on your sensitive penis dear!!!

you had almost all of your std testing done far too early. the only testing that was accurate was your gonorrhea and chlamydia testing. You need to wait at least 6 weeks post encounter for syphilis testing; 3 months for herpes and hiv testing.

this sounds like irritation more than anything. when you are at home and can do so, go bottomless so you have less friction and irritation to your genital area.  drink plenty of fluids to keep your body well flushed out.  you can sprinkle corn starch on your genital area before getting dressed to help reduce friction from clothing.

Just some additional info:

I have no burning sensation during urination or ejaculation.  There is no abnormal discharge or any visible bumps that look like an STD.  Directly to the side of my penis hole there is a slight swell/bump, but it was there directly after the next day and has not changed at all within 3 weeks.  The only symptoms are redness, light swelling, and irritation when touched/rubbed against underwear while walking.  Occasionally my testicles will become sore, but it may be just due to my steep decline in sexual activity since the encounter.
